Puʻu ʻŌʻō is a volcano vent for the island of Kilauea. It is the same vent that nearly took out a town several years ago
Right now, a lava tube leading into the ocean collapsed and left a "waterfall" of lava pouring into the Pacific ocean.
GO here to see several spectacular videos of lava hitting the ocean and exploding into rocks. Plus some USGA thermal pictures.

Why does this happen?
Well, the Hawaiian Islands are growing larger bit by bit, eruption by eruption.
The Hawaiian Islands were built by Shield Volcanos
Read about them on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shield_vo ... an_islands
Don't expect lavish garden homes with ocean views for sale. Puʻu ʻŌʻō has been erupting since 1983 continuously.
