There is a new erectile dysfunction device that makers hope to have on the market in 5-10 years. It's heat activated. Once implanted, you wave a remote like device in from of your groin and up she goes. Interesting and funny too. http://www.sciencealert.com/this-heat-a ... ysfunction

I can already see fights developing over who gets the remote. :D

Honestly that sounds like a real stretch (pardon the pun) for that technology.

First of all, perfecting the activation temperature seems unlikely. It has to be high enough to avoid too much spurious reaction (would you always have an erection in a hot tub?) While still being comfortable.

Secondly, while flaccid it is still metal so I assume it would be annoying but worse could be permanently deformed with a little pressure.

Needing a remote is even less convenient that current pumps used in penile prostheses. First of all you have to take it with you, secondly there is no hiding it. So you can't just discretely pump it up.

Next how long would it last? The cool thing about current prostheses is that they give a lasting erection so you get some condolence for the other downsides of needing it.

Lastly, as metal "exoskeleton" it probably will set of those millimeter wave security scanners.

Just seems really impractical. Now with technology development you can try to get over the impracticalities, but that is only worth it if there is some serious advantage of the new technology which I can't see here.

In recent years we often see ideas whose sole purpose seems to be to burn the investors' money. This seems to be one. Solving sexual problems is a huge industry. Everyone wants to invent the next big thing. The next Viagra. Few will.

But let them try. Finally, they may invent something useful. Even if that something may be totally different from the starting ideea.

Security scanners does not represent a new problem. There are already countless metal implants that can trigger them. One more does not matter. Although, given the area where is located, it could be interpreted as a weapon hidden in the ass... ;)

I had one of the inflatable implant type put in, in 1996. As the implant aged I started having problems and it was removed in 2003. Once those tubes were inserted the Corpus Spongiosum is destroyed.

Given that remote is probably an inductive heater - having erection every time when scanned with millimeter wave scanner is a scary thought :). Though, the energy is not enough for that, probably.

PS. With nitinol, there is no such thing as "permanent deformation" - reheat it and it restores remembered shape.

I strongly suspect it works like a semi-rigid prosthesis - keeps any shape you give to it, and well, remote makes it "remember" erect shape. Kind of like here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBaIdvgbBAM

Also - bath would not affect it - body temperature keeps below 42°C, and alloy can be made with activation temperature from 30°C to 130°C - so safe.

I had an implant in 1988 that led to massive infection, requiring its removal later that same year (which resulted in total loss of both corpora) as well as multiple hospitalization and nine additional operations over the next three years until the infection was defeated.

Anyone who looks to any foreign implant into their penis should seriously consider the risks. Interesting that you were able to be castrated afterwards as two doctors from whom I sought that solution to my sexual drive with no possibility of satisfaction said that the history of serious post operative infections made castration to much of a risk.

I thought of a penile implant that could be controlled by a clapper mechanism. Clap twice it is up then clap once and back down. Of course a standing ovation at a concert might give you the time of your life.

LOL 😄

It might also be an application for the Amazon Echo Dot or Apple Home kit or Google Home. I can just see it now:

"Alexa, give my hubby an erection."

"Okay"

BOING!

Working on a surgical floor the talk of penile implants was brought up and a nurse asked me if I would ever get one. I told her sadly "I did not have enough skin to cover the model I wanted'.
