Pete's Dragon is sort of a remake of the original Disney film of the same name.
It's a very nice movie for families to take little kids who are thrilled by dragons and all those wonderful stories.
The story is simple... At the age of 4 or 5, Pete is the only survivor of a car crash as his parents travel through the forest and as night falls, he is menaced by wolves in the forest and saved by a green, furry dragon.
About 6 years later, loggers and a forest ranger (Bryce Dallas Howard in flats and not chasing the Indominus (nah, Imodium) Rex. discover the boy and his dragon.
It's a good family movie. Not perfect but good. There are some flaws but children will love it and parents can enjoy it.
However, as we all know from PUFF the Magic Dragon, Dragons live forever but not so little boys. One day, they will part ways and the Dragon will return to other dragons and the boy will have to become a man.

Re: Pete's Dragon (2016)
I hesitate to watch this one.
I enjoyed the original Disney classic, even though Cinema Sins on YouTube tore it to shreds.
Nothing like taking the little ones to a movie to hear a song about murdering and eating a boy.

Re: Pete's Dragon (2016)
It is rated "PG" where the animated 1977 film was "G"... Mostly because the film opens with the car crash that killed Pete's parents and leaves I'm alone in the forest where wolves come after him. That's going to scare little kids. One of the biggest fears of kids is being abandoned.
Elliot the Dragon is a delight and warm and fun. However, in the big climax when Elliot blows fire, once again, hold onto the kids because they will be scared.
It is a much better story than the original animated mess. I would admit that the villain is one-dimensional although not Snidely Whiplash one-dimensional. Bryce Dallas Howard is a forest ranger and her husband is a logger. It's his brother who wants to capture and put Elliot on display because it's his return to the glory days of whatever backstory is not told us (hence the one-dimension).
I watched it twice and felt good after both times.
