When I was young, I avoided redneck music. Now that I'm OLD, I like it. Go figure.

The music changed, Mac. I am exactly like you. I remember my folks would have on the Grand Old Opry in my sweet Idaho home back in the late 50s and 60s. I thought the music was a real gag-a-maggot affair (mind you, it did not help that I was a teenager and my parents were so uncool). Then in 1980 I changed jobs. I took my gf to one last movie in Tennessee before heading to Arizona. It was "Electric Horseman" and Willie Nelson's song "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys" left me stunned. There is no other way to put it. Just stunned. Once in AZ I started looking at country music and most I could take or leave but the songs I liked I really, really liked. It seems to go in cycles. Now is a dud cycle for me, but I am sure there will be future songs that, for me, will be great.

While I love country music, it’s hard to equate a guy named Paisley and Redneck in the same sentence. LoL. Artists change their name all the time. I’m wonder how “Paisley” passed the No-Desk. Haha.

I’m more of an old-school country type, myself. 1970s, and earlier is more my style. That being said, I’m a *HUGE* Hank 3 fan. Not so much his punk stuff, but his country songs are amazing. When Minnie Pearl met him, she said, “Oh Lord, I thought I saw a ghost”. The guy looks *JUST LIKE* his Grandaddy.

Since this thread has already been hijacked from Irish music to Hank Williams, I’m going to move it a bit further to Hank-Williams-inspired. One of my favorite musicians is D.L. Menard. He has said that Hank Williams was his hero and he has talked about briefly meeting and talking with him while he was pumping gas in Erath, Louisiana. Hank Williams pulled in and was willing to chat for a while as he got gas.

Menard was already writing and performing songs locally and he asked Williams how long it took him to write a song. He was initially downcast when he said that it usually took 30 minutes or less to write a song. Menard later realized, that between running out to pump gas and going back to work again on his current song, this song (which has sold over a million records) only took about 30 minutes. Here he is performing it in his yard with a group of friends:
