MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – A Minnesota mother is suing her teenage child for transitioning from male to female without her permission.

Anmarie Calgaro is also suing the 17-year-old’s doctors and public health and school officials in the lawsuit filed in Minneapolis federal court Wednesday.

Calgaro says in the lawsuit that her child has been treated at a Minneapolis health clinic and given medication for transgender issues without her consent. Calgaro says the St. Louis County school district, where the teen is a student, has taken away her parental rights and refused to release records to her.

The lawsuit includes a copy of a letter of emancipation the teen obtained from a lawyer, but notes that the letter doesn’t constitute a court order. Calgaro is asking the court to halt all medical services.

Both the clinic and the school district declined comment.

This entire thing is apparently being financed by an anti-abortion group which sounds weird to start with. Apparently this mother hasn't cared where this teen is as she has been living elsewhere for quite a while and the mother has made no effort to get her to move back home, has not reported her as a runaway or anything other than objecting to her name change. Under Minnesota law, there is no such thing as emancipation per se but a minor not living with their parents and financially self sustaining can make their own medical decisions which she has been doing regarding transition, HRT and such. This is where the anti-abortion group comes in. A minor not living with her parents does not require parental consent for an abortion but rather than challenge that, they are using this as a back door challenge to the law. So this poor girl is being used as a pawn in something that really doesn't even concern her.
