Drives

Post by Arab Nights (imported) »

I recently have had the very good luck to make two of my favorite drives. Each can easily be done in a day. One is Highway 395 from Lone Pine, CA to Carson City, NV. The east slope of the Sierra Nevada is just this evolving view of gorgeous mountains. The other is Highway 89 from Page, AZ to Richfield, UT. It goes from blow-your-socks-off views of stunning red rock country and up the Sevier River valley cut into mountains with one picturesque small town after another which seem frozen in an earlier time.

We have members from all over the place. Any other drives worth mentioning?

In Southern California:

Las Virgenes Rd / Malibu Canyon Rd from the 101 Freeway to the beach (near Pepperdine U.) -- its a rather short drive probably only 15 min or so. But beautiful scenery, and you end up at the beach. About a mile away is Solstice Canyon. If you are into hiking there's trail that takes up the mountains for a great view of the shoreline.

Also I've always liked the 126 which runs between Ventura and Six Flags Magic Mountain, lots of citrus groves, farmland + mountains.

Next time you make that 395 trip, turn left (if coming from the south) onto route 108 (the next pass north of tioga) and drive all the way over and down into the valley or foothills on the other side. Riverwind and I are originally from that area.
