Osteoperosis

Post by haaversen (imported) »

I have been an Eunuch for 10 years and do not get testosterone, but in 10 years I have developes osteoperosis. I have taken medicine so it has not gotten worse the last 3 years. I don't want to take testosterone so I guess it is just a part of what happens. As long as it would not get worse I would be ok.

I am curious. What medicine did you take? I take triptoreline so maybe I will have to take it some time in the future too. Any side effects?

I've got a paper around here somewhere describing a urologist getting castrated for prostate cancer. He switched to low doses of estrogen, and recovers most of his mood, libido, and sexual function without feminizing. The paper is titled "Prostate Cancer, Gonadal Hormones, and My Brain" and it's by Richard J. Wassersug. (The paper was provided by our Jesus, I think)

I happily stayed on the supplemental E for more than a decade and along the way entertained myself with the thought that I was either a very lucky prostate cancer patient or an indifferent male-to-female transsexual, who dressed in (male) drag and declined to shave.

Well, I think there might be some misinformation. I use a lose dose regimen of testosterone to ward off osteoporosis. It prevents depression too. Libido is low and erections are seldom. My last prostate exam, which was a month or two ago, my urologist said my prostate was small and then he added, "Very small". So using a low dose amount of testosterone will prevent osteoporosis, prevent severe depression, and your prostate will shrink. Oh, if you still have a penis, that will shrink a lot too, if you have one of those. :)

I asked my urologist about this after my surgery. He told me to take a 600mg Calcium tablet twice a day, which I do. I saw my primary care guy last week for my annual tune-up and asked him about it. He ordered a Dexa Scan (Bone Scan?) which I have yet to schedule. I'll do it next week. That is one of the no T side effects that I don't want to ignore. I've always had strong bones but so did my mother and she developed Osteoporosis but never took any hormonal supplements when menopause hit. Her sister, however did take supplements and stood straight up until she died.

I'm not taking any T so I'm anxious to see what my bones are like. I'll post the results for the benefit of others.

My Dexa scan is scheduled for next Thursday, Sept. 8th.

I also use a Lite version of almond milk instead of cow's milk when I have breakfast cereal or have other uses for milk. The carton says "40 calories per serving", "50% more calcium than dairy milk", "25% less sugar", and "1/3 fewer calories than regular almond milk". I don't know if those are legitimate claims or not. I try to eat smarter than I used to because the warnings about weight gain post castration should be heeded.

Good thing there isn't a MoM all the time. The food alone was worth the trip.🙏

Good luck on your scans. I share the same concerns too. And I thought I've read somewhere that calcium doesn't get absorbed easily without a good amount of Vitamin D or sunshine.
