I've been watching the Olympics regularly. I'm surprised there hasn't been an active thread.
Michael Phelps is the swimmer dating history. 6 medals so far, one more race to go.
Katie Ledecky is the sensation of Women's swimming events and has won Gold and Silver medals spectacularly.
Simone Manuel is another swimmer who made history with a Gold Medal.
Maddy Dirado is winning gold in swimming
Simone Biles won a gymnastics Gold in a performance that will set standards.
Aly Raisman won in excellent performance.
Laurie Hernandez, Gabby Douglas, and Madison Kocian were the other members of the team and each excellent.
There's others I'll remember tomorrow.

What about Yuri van Gelder, the gymnast and 'Lord of the Rings' nominated for gold?

I personally see it as a huge waste of money, media distraction, and don't give a flying rat's ass about it.

I can't ignore it seeing as I work for an organization hip deep in it at the moment. I've not watched it once though. *shrugs*

Geneva Stone just won a Silver medal in women's single sculls.
That's those very long boats with one person rowing for rather long distance on water (duh? where else dodo?)

Gymnast Yuri van Gelder has lost his legal fight to be reinstated in the Dutch Olympic squad after being sent home from Rio on Tuesday for drinking.

Apparently you can screw all you want (free condoms for the taking) but you can't drink to excess

Better than watching political news...
And WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT AVATAR.
It has me gasping in laughter. Damn near stoked to death on my lunch...
I want to see more of whatever it is...

That's the front of my new shirt that Jesus sent me from his trip to Japan. His young grandson picked it out.

I've been watching and I'm rather disappointed with some of the people covering the Games. When one of the competitors ran over and hugged her spouse after a win, the broadcaster said she was hugging her husband. No she wasn't, she was hugging her wife! Other comments like Katie Ledecky swims like a man, like Michael Phelps. No, Katie Ledecky swim's like Katie Ledecky. Other comments about how great various women's husbands were in being a woman's coach. He may have been her coach but he wasn't out there competing! WTF is up with that? A lot of misogynistic reporting.
I've had a problem with where the games have been held all along though. Yeah, they have reported on how bad the water is to swim in but all in all, Rio and Brazil are being touted as this great place to have fun. Sure, it's a great place to vacation if you're not transgender. If you're transgender, good luck because your life expectancy is slightly over age 30 before someone murders you. And that includes the police, one of whom shot a trans woman in the chest because he didn't like how she was dressed to go dancing in a club. It's hard to know exactly because the media in Brazil routinely misgenders victims but it's thought that 57 trans people were murdered by the January 26, 2016.
Sorry for the rant but it's pissed me off that the Olympics are being held in such a transphobic country that it's considered ok to beat a 13 year old child to death for being gender variant!

...
NBC commentary lacks brains. The babbling of some of the commentators is one reason I don't watch sometimes or I play music on the computer with the TV sound off...
Plus, they have been sexist in their comments about women. They can't understand that the women athletes are just as motivated and just as hard working as the men.
Katie Ledecky swims like Michael Phelps because she and her coach made the conscious decision to use his style in the water. She's got a great future ahead of her if she continues.
Katinka Hosszu did the swimming and not her husband. No other coach gets the credit that NBC tried to give him. That was abysmally stupid of the newscasters.
And yes, parts of Rio are cesspools of poverty and the society is neither women friendly or LGBT friendly. The IOC is a gang to idiots that have a good thing going and they haven't a clue how to make it better.
But, as I said above, It's better than 24/7 politics.
