SSRI instead of HRT

Wondering if anyone has tried using an SSRI as an alternative to HRT, and if so, how did it turn out? I know Brisdell (low dose paxil) is being used as an alternative to HRT for women dealing with hot flashes.

Was interrupted while composing the post so had to keep it short.
I'm currently 15 days off TRT and am doing remarkably well so far, and I have to assume it is due to being on an SSRI. The main low T issues that I had been dealing with, depression, hot flashes, lethargy and brain fog, have not returned at this point. I know it is still early, but I really wasn't excited about being on HRT for the rest of my life, and I'm hoping this turns out to be a viable option.

Hi,
I am a bit confused SSRIs are usually antidepressants with some horrible side effects. Brindell seems to be the only one they talk about to relieve hot flushes, so one wonders because of the side effects how safe in the long term it would be, and if it is specific to the task, i doubt that it is a HRT alternative.
I am not a medical person, it just what i have read and some of my experiences with SSRIs which made my depression worse.
Just a point.
Have a good day!

Paxil like other SSRIs can also be used for reducing sex drive.

My understanding is that the first generation SSRI's did have some bad side effects, but the newer ones tend to be more gentle. I've been on Lexapro for about 8 weeks and it has been all good.

I also have ordered an SSRI (Fluoxetine) and I hope, it is efficient against my too high libido and everytime thinking about sex.
I will report, if I have test it any time...
In the literature it is described as a very efficient way to reduce it all mostly without side effects.
I hope...

Hope it works out for you, jojo25jj. For me, since I am already low T, it is nice because it seems to be alleviating the low T issues while keeping my libido nonexistent. TRT alleviates the issues but increases my libido. So, it is nice to feel good and have the option of having a libido or not.
Again, I don't know how feasible this is long term, but I'm still feeling good 20+ days off TRT.

Wow, I'm now 3 days on fluoxetine and it worsk heavy on the time you need to orgasm. Wow!
That alone is a good effect to make masturbation less interesting and more to a waste of time.

I'm about 4 weeks off TRT, just on Lexapro 20mg, and am actually feeling better than I have in years. Finally have the "eunuch calm" I'd been after, but I think it is actually a lexapro calm. Still no low t issues and have a much brighter outlook on life.
