I relatively recently met at the old farts' early morning koffee klatch at McDs an even older gentleman who is a retired farmer from Iowa. I have come to appreciate that he is a really sharp fellow. This morning I got into checkout at Safeway's and there was a lady in front of me and he was in front of her. I told him good morning and said this reminded me of when I lived in a town in the Nevada gold mining region where going to the grocery story was a social event. The lady turned out to be from a burg in Kentucky and had her own comments. John said that his Iowa town was so small that everybody lived on the outskirts and the people were so laid back that one guy asked the town council to move the dump to his property so he would not have to make a side trip on his way home.
