Game of Thrones, 2016

What started out as a great fantasy with its' own realm

has devolved into a soap opera :realpisse

Gone are the great armies and the treachery,

now it tells less story in an hour than it use to.

How do other Thronies on Board see it?

Just as good as before or, A Fantasy Soap Opera ?

As icky, sticky, girlie as Outlander.

Moi 🚬

The last of the wolf puppies is dead. :(

My Niece and some of her friends like it. They have little parties in a bar to watch it. . .

I lost interest in the first season.

I can see why you lost interest at that point cos all that happened was some kid fell from a tower and that was about it.

Going back to the original post.

I guess that dead horse is taking a bit of a battering but I'm not going to bin it off just yet.

I'm going to hang in there and hope somthing interesting happens.

Also I have been impressed with BBC2's offering "The Last Kingdom" and the History Channel's "Vikings"

However the "History" channel is doing its best to rewrite Norse mythology.

I remember the kid being killed. It seemed so senseless at the time.

Khal Drogo butt-fucking all the women in front of his troops was another scene that made me dislike it.

The other was endless soap-opera-ish discussion in some castle about who was going to betray whom when some duke or kinsman or whatever was recalled to the main castle.

I went to the internet where YouTube has segments of someone's castration to see if it was any good and the talking was endless.

It just wasn't the show for me. However, I rarely say that because people usually are raving about how great the show is and how wonderful the story. So I just say that it was opposite STARZ's Spartacus and The Walking Dead and I liked those better.

...the History Channel's "Vikings" ...

I had a lady friend simply rave about VIKINGS. I think she watches it because of the half-naked men with lots of muscles in it. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

I must admit -- I do read all the gossip stories about GAME OF THRONES on the various news and gossip websites.

Are you aware of "Eaters of the Dead" by Michael Crichton, the movie was The 13th Warrior. Some liberties.

A translation of the most ancient record of Viking culture by an Arab. The manuscript is authenticated because it is found in several ancient libraries dating back to that time. Smithsonian magazine mentioned it too in their article about Vikings

Are you aware of "The Sagas". There was a Ragnar Lothbrook, and Lagatha who raided Rome. There was a Bjorn and a Ivar the Boneless who will kill King Aila because he killed Ivar's father, Ragnar.

In the old Vikings move with Tony Curtis and Kirk Douglas,

Ernest Borgnine plays Ragnar jumping into a pit of wolves/dogs.

History Channel's Vikings may have more historical base than you give credit. Down to Rollo and the Normans.

As far as GoT.

Certainly. After viewers like us got sucked in with nudity and war and story for years and years,

they go soap opera knowing we will not abandon our investment 😠

Moi 🚬

BTW I do love history and often sought out the Not Christian History sources.

So I was somewhat familiar with Viking stuff.

The kid wasn't killed, he was crippled. He's actually back this season (6). The Dothraki's are also back and I think the "butt fucking of women" days are over. ;)

True about the Roman thing there was some waffle about a Roman invasion in the latest season.

We will just have to wait and see if Ragnar meets his maker in a Northumbrian snake pit when the final episode is screened.
