Just wanted to know what others thought about this nurse who took pictures of an unconscious males penis, etc. and then sent them to colleagues. Was his penis different? Special? huge? or what reason did she do it? Was it funny to her? She lost her livelihood over something dumb.

FULTON, N.Y. --An upstate New York nurse convicted of taking a photo of an unconscious patient's penis with her iPhone last year has surrendered her license, reports CBS affiliate WSTM (http://cnycentral.com/news/local/nurse- ... rs-license).

Kristen Johnson pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disseminating of unlawful surveillance photos, and as part of a plea deal agreed to give up her license and spend three years on probation.

Johnson was the focus of a nine-month investigation after coworkers at Upstate University Hospital told authorities that she sent pictures of two patients via text message.

Investigators said Johnson used an iPhone 5 to photograph an incapacitated male patient's genitals.

She was originally charged with two counts of second-degree unlawful surveillance and one count of second-degree disseminating unlawful surveillance.

Johnson surrendered her license to the state Education Department and did not contest a disciplinary charge of moral unfitness.

Similar story a couple of years ago when an Arizona surgeon snapped a photo of some guy's dick which was tattooed "POCKET ROCKET".

My first overseas job was in Peru. I got an anaerobic bacterial infection in the fold of skin where the leg joins the torso. I was in a clinic up in the Andes several times while the doctors figured out how to treat it. Obviously that mean laying on the examining table with my drawers around my knees. My Spanish was pretty bad at that time. I did notice that it seemed like several nurses came in and out. It dawned on me what was happening when the clinic secretary came in to be sure my name was spelled correctly. Nobody was going to miss a chance to see what a gringo looked like. I don't think other cultures have quite our sensibilities about these things.

I had several female nurses lift my blanket to check my bandaged incision for any bleeding while I was in post op recovery following my castration. One expressed her sympathy and encouragement to me that I would be OK.

I think it is just way too much for her to have to give up her nursing license over this. Maybe if the patient or "victim" suffered from the pic then some civil judgement would be in order, like maybe the guy was identified with the picture of his penis and humiliated by it, but the pic alone? No, I don't this it is right at all to bust someone so harshly for something like that. I also think that if this had been a MALE who took a pic of a female patient.... well a man would be sent to PRISON for this with a felony conviction - and that would also be horribly unjust.

For most people if they are hospitalized for what ever reason they are at one of the most vulnerable times in their lives and often incapable of fighting back due to illness, if someone who is a professional in caring for you takes a picture for their own sexual gratification or for the amusement of others they have crossed the line in the duty of care they are paid to provide, and quite rightly should be sacked so they cant do it again.

One of my fears for my future old age now I am castrated is I end up in a care home if I get something like dementia, and end up as a figure of fun for the staff, none of us know whats round the corner and we all want to be treated with some dignity especially if we cant fight back.

I think this man's penis/genitals was/is unusual or tattooed or maybe he had a body modification.

She lost her license and livelihood over breaking a US federal law. A law that it's drilled into nurses, doctors, and other healthcare providers that you don't break upon penalty of job loss and losing your profes

See above. The law she broke was the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, more commonly called HIPAA. It sounds like hippo but with an "A" sound on the end. Passed by the US Congress in 1996 and signed into law by President Bill Clinton. She violated the patient privacy protection clause in Title II of the law. Ergo, she got fired and lost her license. She could theoretically go to jail over doing this, though I don't believe anyone has ever been sentenced to jail for breaking that law.

So when someone says that this is overboard, I disagree. Bitch got what she deserved for taking advantage of a helpless person who trusted her with their care. End of story.

I also agree with Losethem, She has to take responsibility for her actions.

I also agree with Losethem. One's genitals are an absolute private matter and no one has to take photos of them. It's a disgusting act of disrespect.
