Son and I went to see Eddie the Eagle last night. We were talking afterwards and I made the comment that I remember him from twenty or so years ago. That got me thinking that, in my memory, thru all the years of top athletes there has been no performance that has stuck with me like Eddie.
I was just wondering if anyone had another Olympic memory other than Eddie that really has kept with them?

I certainly remember Eddie the Eagle and who can forget "Cool Runnings" the Jamaican Bobsled Team. However, these are the two I remember most. It was tape delay, not even shown live, but "The Miracle On Ice" is one I'll never forget. Al Michaels, "You've got 10 seconds, the countdown going on right now, Morrow up to Silk, five seconds left in the game . . . Do you believe in miracles? Yes!" Also the 1500 at the end of the 1976 Decathlon. Jenner had the gold wrapped up and was 50m behind the Russian Litvinenko who was leading the race. Everyone thought Jenner would just cruise in for the gold. But Jenner sprinted the last lap, made up the 50m and almost caught Litvinenko. The thing I remember most was Jenner got a US flag from the crowd and carried it during the victory lap, the first person to do so and starting a tradition among athletes. No matter what you think of Caitlyn, she was one hell of an athlete.

Ah, the Jamaican Bobsled Team. Thanks for reminding me. I had forgotten about that. I am planning my next move in Namibia.
Not to take anything away from great athletes, but I love it when you get the occasional off-the-wall team going for the gold.
