Man cuts off penis on busy street after arguing with girlfriend

In a bizarre incidence of self-mutilation, a man in southern Turkey cut off his penis in broad daylight on a busy street after reportedly arguing with his girlfriend on the phone.
A 21-year-old man identified only as "H.B." was a street vendor in the city of Mersin. Security camera footage that emerged on Thursday shows the man brandishing a razor and pushing it to the front side of his trousers. Eyewitnesses said he then repeatedly slashed his penis before a plainclothes policeman intervened and seized the razor from his hands. The young man was immediately hospitalized with his heavily severed penis. Doctors managed to sew the organ back in place. Doctors said the man was not in critical condition but it was unclear whether his penis would be restored to its original state as it was seriously damaged.
Eyewitnesses said the man committed the peculiar act after a cellphone conversation with his girlfriend that turned into a heated argument for an unknown reason.
While there have been past reports of women cutting off the genitals of cheating spouses, the self-mutilation of one's penis is virtually unheard of with the exception of a few bizarre cases. In October, a man in Uganda cut off his penis in his home after learning about the infidelity of his girlfriend.
