I had a bilateral orchiectomy done last Friday (4 days ago). I'm MTF, and had been on a low does of E for the past year so I haven't had erections for most of the past year, except when I wanted them. I really hated "morning wood" and random erections during the day, so being on E was great. However, my surgeon requested that I stop E about 10 days before the surgery, and the random erections started about 3 or 4 days before the surgery and have been continuing since then.
I'm healing just fine from the surgery. The suture doesn't hurt, only the cord stumps are a little sore because I had so many veins (I had a massive varicocele on the left side), but I wake up several times each night with a giant erection which stretches everything out and makes it really sore. I assume it's still some leftover testosterone in my system that's causing this. How long will it take for these to stop happening? I'm starting back on the E today.
As a side note, being castrated feels awesome! I have had issues with pain and varicoceles for nearly 20 years, and then being trans on top of that, I really hated my package. I've been a lurker here for several years while getting the funds and my personal situation aligned to have this procedure. I'm so happy I finally had it done!

Your mileage varies, but I would not be surprised if it could be a couple of weeks before most of your T gets out of your system. Remember, there will still be a minimal amount still being produced by the adrenal glands, but it should normally not be enough for morning erections.

Half life of t is 7 days right?
I know I was in hell the first time after 30 days. When I was ordered to purge it all out.
At the moment I am testing to see how long I can go without. I. Have found the morning erections get worse as the levels drop. My last infection of .5 was 20 days ago. So as he said it will vary as well as the original level of higher will take longer I think

T levels in the blood drop rapidly in just a few hours but you have T bound to receptors throughout the body that take a while to get free as either the T or its receptor degrade.

Re: How long after surgery till T levels are 0
Thanks, everybody. Today is day 5. Last night the erections weren't as bad, and today I didn't have any of the hot flashes that I'd felt every few hours for the first 4 days. Seems like things are starting to level out and feel more "normal".
I also checked my insurance claims online today and saw that my procedure claim has already gone through, I only have to pay about $800 of the $3500 total cost. I had an additional $1200 worth of consulting and imaging (damn CT scan) fees earlier, so overall this orchie is going to end up costing me around $2k out of pocket.

Yes, even with insurance can sometimes be costly. That's unfortunate, but the way it is. I have to agree with you saying the feeling is awesome. I think it will take at least a few weeks to get most of the T out of your system, but I suspect it continues to drop after that. I am on a medium dose of T and I find that I can go a month between injections without it being too bad so it takes it at least that long to get out of my system.

Don't bet on your testosterone ever going to zero. The adrenal glands make a small amount in males as well as females. Adult males who are castrated typically have T levels under 50 but not 0.
