Dr. Felix Spector has spent time in jail?

I found an interesting quote on
http://www.bmezine.com/news/people/A10101/rlking/ :
This was far cheaper than the unaffordable $750 Dr. F.S. in Philadelphia had quoted him for a bilateral orchiectomy or surgical castration. Dr. F.S. is one of a handful of underground doctors making a living performing castrations on the pre-op transsexual and eunuch fetishist communities. He sees it as an essential need, and justifies it with the knowledge that if he doesn't do it, they will risk their lives doing it themselves, and has spent time in jail defending these beliefs.
I didn't know that Dr. Spector had gotten jailed for doing that before!

It's not uncommon for people who have committed no real crime to spend time in jail for their beliefs. Nelson Mandella comes to mind quickly, or the Polish labor union leader Lech Walensa (spelled phonetically ...).
While Felix Spector is hardly on par with these men, or others like them, I wouldn't hold that against him.
What I WOULD hold against him are the obvious - painfully obvious - slip ups and snaffoos of late that I'm told about by former customers of his. Anyone who can't remember where they parked their car without a map needs to be in a nursing home, not out booking appointments (and losing them!) or waving a scalpel around.
Hopefully with Dr. Kimmell in place now, whom I hear wonderful things about, the old coot will soon be put in a nursing home or supervised care where he obviously belongs.

Right on,
Dr Spector over the years has done a wonderful job but there comes a time in everybody life when its time to retire. He has gone past that time be several years and in the process is costing dearly. Thankfully he no longer does surgery but he is still taking money and costing people because of his incompetence due to his age. This has cost me over $500. I cant speak for others on what it has cost them. Paolo is correct this guy now belongs in a nursing home where he can be watched closely.

My 19-year-old daughter (when she was 18) parked her car outside of K-mart and could not remember where she parked it.
Not always does it mean Alzheimer's Disease. Although repeated incidents of short term memory lapse with behavior and attitude changes are a good indication to seek the services of a good neurologist.
It is best not to use a psychiatrist for Alzheimer's Disease because it is primarily a neurological problem not a psychiatriac one.
It is sad to see people with Alzheimer's Disease. Medications can help to stave off the symptoms for a while. If Dr. Spector has this I feel sorry for him, but given his age, I'd venture to say that he is probably just having more or less normal symptoms.
At any rate in either case he should not be doing surgery and that is why peer review in a hospital is so important. If a Doc does surgery in his office, there is no quality review and no method of overseeing competency. This is why before anyone gets any procedure done in a Dr.'s office they need to research his or her work first.
