THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING

is a biopic about Stephen Hawking with Eddie Redmayne in the title role. Redmayne won a well-deserved Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal.

This is a romance. It begins with Hawking getting his doctorate from Cambridge University to study theoretical physics. There he meets his wife and one day, he just falls over. As we all know, he suffers from ALS or Motor Neuron Disease that usually kills in two year. But he is a romantic, a charming person with an amazing wife. Eventually three children (yes, that part of him works and is handled with utter dignity in the movie). He has three children. That in any men's book is a success.

It is a sweet movie and at times heartbreaking, a true tearjerker (a box of tissues for sure), and a wonderful story.

Don't expect a ton of complex theory about black holes and the Big Bang. However, The Theory of Everything is what Hawking wants to find -- a theory that unifies the four fundamental forces of nature -- a theory that unifies Newtonian/Einstein-ian theories with Quantum Mechanics. It is the great quest of theoretical physics. One elegant mathematical expression that explains it all -- from the smallest thing in the universe to the vastness of the universe and from the beginning of time to its end.) That is his goal.

It is also Hawking's life and his life is an inspiration. And at the age of 73, we can say he is a success. (yes, he is still alive against all odds).
