The Maze Runner is a mystery and action movie.
A teen (Thomas) wakes up in a sort of a moving elevator that rises into a glade. He has no memory of who he is or why he is there. . .
The only occupants are other teen boys who likewise have no memory of who or why or even what the place is.
THE GLADE is surrounded by huge-ass walls that look to be about 50 feet high. Each day, one of 8 gates opens to reveal a maze. The boys run the maze looking for a way out.
Thomas witnesses a runner getting caught and left in the maze and hears the screams of strange creatures called grievers and death.
The grievers are nasty animal/machine hybrids that look like crosses between spiders with lamprey mouths and scorpions with a stinger tail.
It wouldn't be a story if Thomas didn't try to rescue someone in the maze before the walls close. The first time he fails and that's where the discoveries begin. He survives.
A few days later, after more discoveries and chases and Grievers killing thingies . . . a girl comes through the elevator thing with a note attached -- this is the last. There will be no more boys.
In the course of events, the boys discover the answer to what the maze is and why they are there .
I won't reveal the ending. I think it's a downer but then it has to be to set up THE MAZE RUNNER 2 -- which will be released on September 18
The acting is good. The actors are engaging and the action is good.
It is from a trilogy of books by the same name. So there will be a third movie. I guess.
a side note: Dylan O'Brien also had a role in TV's TEEN WOLF where they put him into a coma for the majority of a season while he worked on Maze Runner 1+2.

Re: The Maze Runner (2014)
You got that right, LT!
Although the boy who just set up my new phone was nothing to sneeze at.
OK, I could be his grandpa...but let me dream, OK?
