BUYERS AND CELLARS is a stage play by Jonathan Tolins
It is a one-act, one person extravaganza of laugh out loud fun. If you get a chance to see it, go and laugh. That's its purpose in life - - to make the audience laugh with a nice story about two gay lovers and the strange interactions of one in Barbra Streisand's basement.
The fiction part is of the actor who tells a oddly beautiful and touching and funny story of being hired to staff the tiny mall and act as salesforce in it. He's gay, his partner is gayer, and his interactions with his boss and Barbra is (what else) Barbra.
The true part is that Barbra Streisand has a compound, you see, in Malibu. To this compound she added a barn, complete with a mill wheel and chickens: A sort of New England like structure that appeared to be transported in. But the real magic was in the cellar where Streisand has created a street of old timey shops to house her collection of, well, everything. Dolls, antiques, gifts etc all set up with precision and attention to detail that is excruciating.
There are even pictures of Barbra in her shopping mall http://www.harpersbazaar.com/fashion/ph ... se-photos/
And there's a book about her house in Malibu at 5750 Ramirez Canyon Road - http://www.amazon.com/dp/0670022136/
