Surgery this Weekend

Post by Questioning (imported) »

So after several years of rolling it around in my head, going back and forth a lot, talking to two therapists, tens of eunuchs, and a transgender health-focused endocrinologist, I've finally summoned up the gumption to go ahead and get castrated. I'm flying out to Michigan on Friday 6/19, seeing Arnkoff Saturday 6/20, and flying back home later in the day on Sunday.

I already have a pump dispenser of Androgel (prescribed two pumps daily for now), a large number of people I can call while I'm recovering if I need to talk (both eunuchs from EA and personal non-eunuch friends I've known for awhile), a check-in appointment with the endocrinologist set for one month after the surgery, and plenty of books and Netflix to keep me occupied in the hotel room :)

I'm excited to be moving forward, and plan to take my first dose of Androgel the day after castration. Anything I should be wary of? I understand that, even with HRT, it's possible to experience some post-surgery depression and hot flushes, but I expect those will be minimized by a full dose of T and the presence of good emotional and medical support networks.

Excited and nervous, but more excited.

Hopefully you will not be too swollen or in significant pain on Sunday. I was up and about the next day. I would suggest you delay applying the Androgel for at least 4 or 5 days at the minimum. There should be enough residual testosterone still available for up to two weeks depending on the individual. If you take it immediately it is possible you will get a massive spike in testosterone. Good luck.

Good luck! I'd be glad to chat and/or share my experiences. Take it easy for a few days at least. The first day is tough, but it gets a little better each day. I was on androgen before and through my orchiectomy last August. I'd suggest asking Dr. Arnkoff if you should start right away, but I'll suggest it wouldn't hurt and probably be good for healing to keep the hormones in your system.

What time is your appointment on Saturday? Are you his only patient this weekend?

Hey, thanks, dvdbll and everyone.

I've been talking to some people and it seems like I'll probably be better off waiting a little bit before I start HRT. I'll ask Arnkoff his advice.

My appointment will be early in the AM, but he hasn't given me an exact time yet. Don't know if I'm his only one this weekend.

Hi everybody, this is questioning, under my NEW name since I'm a eunuch now! It feels weird to say that.

Anyways, the surgery went fine. Arnkoff's a very nice guy. I had cold feet at one point and almost backed out, but Arnkoff made me realize that it was just nerves and gave me the space I needed to come around.

I'm back in the hotel now. Took my pain pills and antibiotic. Iced my Depends-swathed groin. Will ice again shortly.

I feel kind of weird. Like, physically I don't feel any different, but I'm being peppered with "Oh shit, I really did it" moments. Anybody else have a similar period of mental adjustment?

All in all, it needed to be done or else I'd keep thinking about it until my dying day. Now hopefully it lives up to what I hoped for.
