Two different Yahoos

Because of advice here, I have started often using Firefox instead of I Explorer to access Yahoo, mostly because my email has been there since forever. I find Explorer is still good for some things, like the InPrivate option which I use to come here because it does not show on the history. Anyway, Yahoo has the "header" stories which scroll left to right across the top of the screen and then a bunch of stories listed vertically below that. I accidentally found that I get two slightly different Yahoos on Explorer vs. Firefox. When I toggle back and forth between Explorer and Firefox, the vertical list of stories can vary slightly from one to another. Anybody have an idea why?

I do know that there are some stories on Yahoo via Explorer which 'sieze up' my computer and I have to control-delete then cancel to free things up. I am going to pay attention whether that happens in Yahoo via Firefox.

Any comments?

If the main reason you're using Explorer is the private mode, be aware that Firefox has that available (via preference settings) as well. I hadn't noticed the things you mentioned about Yahoo, though.

Hi Sandy

I looked around. Under Options>Privacy I did find a never remember history. I assume that is what you are talking about.

I kind of stumbled across it. While I was getting used to Firefox, I would keep Explorer open for the reason I said. The screens are not that different and occasionally I would find myself scrolling down Yahoo in the Explorer screen and notice that when I wanted to open something. Once I noticed I was on the Explorer screen, I would go to Firefox and that post or article would not be there. It struck me as odd. I would have thought that I could go to Yahoo either way and find the same things.

There is "File→New private window" in Firefox. Also you can clean up your history/session (History→Cleanup recent history).

TOOLS -> OPTIONS -> PRIVACY tab, look down to the HISTORY section, set it for "NEVER REMEMBER".

Hit OK

I use IE. I have it set to erase history whenever I log off and I also go to tools and use the delete features there with every box checked off, history, cookies etc. I don't shut down but do log off every time I'm done using the computer. I seem to have fewer problems with unwanted stuff finding its way in this way. I'm far from being a certified geek. In the event of my demise I don't need the kids confirming their suspicions about the old man's kinks.

EDIT: Paulo, you posted while I was typing. I think you're referring to exactly what I do or close to it.

OK. Got that point covered.

Now, to the question of why you see a slightly different list of stories on Yahoo going via IE vs. Firefox. Like nvrgag, I am a certified non-geek, but things that seem a bit odd pique my curiosity. Maybe that is why I am on this site.

I don't use IE, so I can't help on that one.

I switched to Firefox when IE stopped in the middle of a session with the message 'IE has stopped working'. In spite of everything I tried I could not get it to re-start except on one occasion after reverting to a previous restore point when it ran for about 3 minutes before giving up again. (Searching help for the message indicates that it is caused by lack of memory. That might have been true on may 11 y.o. Sony but this is a new HP with 6 gigs).

However, I had to send this back after it crapped on the FAT and failed when I tried a system restore.

On its return IE was working again, but I had got used to Firefox. However, just recently I have started to get 'Server not available' (about 5% of the time) when I try to connect to email (BT-Yahoo). IE will connect immediately with no problem. Since I have no reason to remain on-line I disconnect from the internet between sessions. Firefox is usually successful when I next try. This suggests to me that Firefox is sensitive to some hand-shaking problem whereas IE ignores it.

Alternatively, there is just the possibility that they are using different bridges to connect to the servers which are not quite in sync. This might explain the different info that Arab Nights has seen.
