It might be that this article has been over-simplified, but it came over to me as being chemically (and probably biologically) naive, and rather like yet another anti-Coca Cola (and pro-vegetarian) web page. In fact, I did a Google search on the author to check that he exists!

Apart from the fact that 'titrating against sodium hydroxide' isn't a good way of measuring pH (though it does tell you how much acid there is, which is a different issue), there doesn't seem to be any attempt to demonstrate that the pH of what you drink has a direct effect on blood pH. In any case if a typical cola has a pH of 2 point something, it's no more acid than a typical stomach anyway and the digestive tract adds its own bicarbonate as the stomach contents pass on.

I must say that I'd be worried about people promoting the use of antacids to 'neutralise' the cola, because it's liable just to provoke the stomach into producing more acid.... And on top of that it's possible to overdose on antacids (particularly sodium bicarbonate.)

well, I don't know about osteoporosis, but I do know that the carbonation in cola is bad for your kidneys and can contribute to kidney stones. THe carbonation in your body forms calcium carbonate.

Also the phenyanaline sweetners are bad for people who are allergic to aspirin. They are hard on your stomach. If you have problems taking ibuprofin, advil, etc... it's the wame type of bad effect.

I, personally, am allergic to corn and corn-derived sweetners, so I avoid the colas and soft drinks that use that stuff.

Soda water is an acid known as carbonic acid. The heat from your stomach plus the agitation of swallowing causes this acid to break up into carbon dioxide & water, which is why you belch.

As far as kidney stones are concerned there are those who believe that extra calcium may prevent them.

Soda, Pop, Coke depending what part of the country your in is well bad for you, it doesn’t matter if you’re a eunuch or not. Jolt is the worst along with Mt Dew, double the sugar double the caffeine. But I like COKE. I Like the caffeine. I like shrimp but its not good for me either.

If we stopped eating and drinking all the things that my be harmful to our health, we would all be eating rabbit food. I am not a rabbit and I know my diet will take a couple of years off my life, but I ask you. What would you rather have. Live +15 years because you’re a eunuch - 3 because you enjoy food and drink or +15 years and if it tastes good you spit it out.

I am new to this eunuch stuff - OH the trials and tribulations I must face.

I think I am going to go have that shrimp tub and a coke while I think about this.

My head hurts.

Breakfast - a pot of coffee and a handful of Chips Ahoy! cookies, followed by 4 cigarettes.

Morning break - 2 cigarettes.

Lunch - chilli cheese dog with onions, side of pasta salad with veggies and a chocolate donut, two 64 oz. Diet Pepsi, 3 cigarettes.

Afternoon break - 2 cigarettes.

Dinner - killer homemade chilli and crackers with BUTTER, not this fake shit. Real butter from a real cow. Two large glasses of whole milk. Real milk, red cap from a local cow.

Computer snack later on - will end up being about 6 diet Pepsi, a sack of Gummi Worms, more cookies and about a pack of cigarettes before bed.

I'll live to be 100, you watch.

You might as well kill me if you said I couldn't eat that.

I believe that I'll watch the amount that I eat, but I will not stop eating things I enjoy (as I don't do too much things for pleasure) and live a shorter but happier life than to be forced into eating Nasty tasting healthy foods and live forever.

Eat what you damned please. Follow Paolo's example. But maybe stop smoking. Cancer is not a pretty way to go.

But nobody's gonna live forever anyway.

The best death is fast and sudden.

Hell, who needs to lie around in thier own poop getting bed sores why their body slowly dies, anyway?
