I remember being quite young and being utterly blown away by the idea of being a 'bred' or otherwise altered humanoid/robot. Not just robots, not just being turned into one, but the exact thing you have going on in this story.

So, this one had a bonus going in, but then the story shined out quality all over the place and made me need to recommend it even more.
