Any thoughts on this? I tried progesterone cream in the past but its effects were marginal. I am trying to decrease testosterone in order to get rid of my sex drive, as readers might have guessed from my previous threads.

I suggesst you asking for Prometrium or Provera(pills) they are not certainly available over the counter but you can get them without a prescription Isn´t It? Correct me If I´m wrong.
In my country prescription is not the problem I got my depo provera and andrcour easily I only had to go to pharmacy, ask and pay for them and that was all!!!! The real problem here is the MONEY, many antiandrogens and oncological drugs are extremely EXPENSIVE. Very few people can afford a decent and medically supervised transgender treatment. Public Inssurance even doesn´t cover such treatments only is covered in some rich cities and in private institutions.
Oestrogel Would be another option, but would develop feminization and you would need a lot of gel applications for many time.

I'm taking licorice right now and it does seem to be helping, but it isn't comparable to a real andro-blocker. There was a fairly high profile study in Italy a few years back in which they administered a fairly big dose and the average decrease in T was around 20%. Not negligible, but certainly not going to get you to castration levels.
Licorice is available on Amazon and is pretty affordable, especially if you do the subscribe and save thing. You do need to watch for possible side effects, especially high blood pressure and potassium depletion. I take mine with Reishi (which lowers high blood pressure and is another mild anti-androgen) and a potassium supplement.
I also try to cook a low-testosterone diet (more soy, less meat, and other herbs like spearmint and green tea that seem to lower testosterone), and I avoid ejaculating or exercise that would tend to increase muscle mass. I would say that I have probably gotten my T pretty low since I have started this regimen, certainly at the bottom of the normal range of a man my age. But as soon as I get my insurance to cover a real andro blocker I'm going to switch to that and not look back.

Progesterone cream is an anti estrogen, it stops the transformation (aromatase) of testosterone into estrogen, so it'll maintain T level higher. Higher T level will also prevent the transformation of testosterone (when it is too low) into DHT (known to cause hair lost and BPH). Progesterone is produced by the gonads of males and females in about same amount. So for a man with low T, progesterone cream will only help to increase his T level.
Among all natural products sold over the counter, without prescription, only Saw Palmetto is known to be as efficient as "finasteride", a chemical anti androgen, to lower T level. None of the other natural products have shown to be efficient to lower T level.
Saw Palmetto (or finasteride) may not be as powerful as Androcur but it works. I know, I have used this product for 8 years.

Paring, what sort of dose are you taking?

I used 4 x 360 mg. a day, this was enough to make me impotent, the maximum recommended is 8. Needless to be at castration level to be impotent, the lower your T level will be, the stronger the side effects will be. As usual, you milage may vary. Depending on health, age, natural T level and testicles sizes you may need more or less.

paring, I am not certain about the dosage size suggested. I see the recommended dosage for finasteride on some sites is 5mg once a day? Are there different types of pills or are you taking Saw Palmetto which is causing my confussion?

Finasteride is a chemical anti androgen prescribed by doctor for hair lost like Propecia which is 1 mg, also used for BPH at 5 mg and for prostate cancer at 10 mg.
Saw Palmetto is a natural product, sold over the counter without prescription, for hair lost problem and BPH. Studies have proven that Saw palmetto acts just like finasteride. It's mostly sold in 2 formats 160 mg and 360 mg. It is just a matter of finding the right amount to induce castration.
Even Propecia can induce castration. Lot of men complain about it. Some other natural products pretend to lower T level but no studies have ever proven w/o doubt that they work.

How do you get someone to prescribe you a real andro blocker?
