The small towns of southern Nevada are full of colorful people. Goldfield, NV is one. Goldfield is one of the 1900 boom towns that was a fantastic discovery. When the mines began to play out after 10-20 years, there were lots of low rent or no rent buildings for the colorful to move into. It is my ace in the hole in case I get tired of modern life. I have the plan of opening a lawn mower repair shop there (google Goldfield photos). Nobody will ever bother my day as long as I do not get into weed whackers for the rabbit brush. One of the characters is a fellow who years ago had started a radio station from his trailer just so he could play the music he likes. His tastes run towards country, jazz, blues, folk, etc. He plays to suit his mood of the day. Although you could only get the station between two mountain passes, it was a pleasure for me just as a break from all the canned top 10 or 20 repeated over and over and over again. I noticed on my last small job that he had moved into a nice studio on the 'main drag.' (You can tell main drag Goldfield because it is paved). He has recruited local talent to help with programs and even has real advertisers now - like the bordello 50 miles south of Goldfield which bills itself as putting the wild back in the wild west.
