have learned a lot from reading these and other posts. as i understand it there is no such thing as 100 percent straight or gay, just as there is no 100 percent male or female.?
People love labels. Nature doesn't. There are extreme cases where a man has intense sexual interest in other men and no interest whatsoever in women or a woman has intense sexual interest in other women but no interest at all in men. However, there is a lot of room in the middle for people who enjoy sex with both sexes or have little interest in sex at all or prefer sex with one sex or the other but have no issues with switching. Some enjoy masturbating but have no interest in sex with others. And the labels "straight" and "gay" don't capture such nuances as whether one enjoys sex toys, anal intercourse, bondage, public humiliation, inflicting or receiving genital pain, drinking other people's urine, giving or receiving oral sex, etc. Some are fascinated with the idea of modifying or destroying their own genitals or the genitals of others, and many here have either done that or sought to have it done. Many who might otherwise enjoy diverse sexual activity have been raised in religious households where even thinking about such things is regarded as sin.
It seems to me, then, that the labels are largely arbitrary, even when a person labels himself. Labels seem to serve mostly to divide people and give people a perceived right to prejudge people whom one might otherwise like. Personally, I'd rather know what a person likes and dislikes than know his label.
