Sperm freezing question

I've got a question about freezing sperm. (Not sure if it is the right forum to post it).

Any coincidences are purely accidental.

Say, some hypothetical potential eunuch thinks about potentially asexually reproducing and having hypothetical kids at a future date. (Ok, I stop my abuse of English language, this part was not accidental :p). Or sperm is collected before the surgery/chemotherapy due to prostate/testicular/other cancer.

What is the time frame, when frozen sperm stays usable?

I got curious and after some reading got very different time frames from "three years" to "indefinitely, if properly stored".

Can anyone give the time frame in question?

From the information site of the Academisch Medisch Centrum in Amsterdan, the hospital of the University of Amsterdam.

The freezing of sperm

You are by your doctor referred to the Fertility Laboratory of the AMC to have freezing your sperm (cryopreservation). The reason is that you are undergoing treatment, which can cause temporary or permanent infertility.

Because of the freezing and storage of sperm, it is possible to fulfill the wish to have a child at a later time. However, there can be no assurance that a pregnancy can be. The frozen sperm actually accomplished no guarantee."

"Bewaarovereenkomst

Custodian Agreement

In the consultation with the clinical embryologist also an agreement on the storage ( " Custodian Agreement " ) will be go through with you and signed by you. If you are younger than 16 years , the agreement have to be signed by an accompanying a parent / guardian .

The custodian agreement is entered into for a period of 10 years . If you want to prolong this period, an agreement have to be signed again. In principle there is no limit to the duration of storage."

The rest of the text is about testing the sperm, blood, the costs, et cetera, the whole procedure.

So, the primary answer is:

I wonder, was there any research defining probabilities/percent of frozen tissue survival for different tissues and different freeze time/conditions?

(That was a recent thought, I haven't done a google search on that, yet).
