The new version coming out the middle of the month.
I see in the latest trailer that there are other Kaiju in the movie.
When and if you go see the movie, put a review here.
After all, Godzilla has a rich history in moviedom.
From the man in the rubber suit to the earth-shattering silliness of the Roland Emmerich version.
Wikipedia lists 28 Japanese movies and 3 previous American Movies. Plus a TV series, video games, and books.

My favorite version was the one where they dubbed Raymond Burr into it.

I Guess I did not edit my last comment, I love Bond movies, I hate Godzilla movies because they are so bad.
I think my favorite Bond was 'Man With The Golden Gun' the car flipping stunt was the best ever done.

Thank God for that River, I was beginning to worry about you! I have never seen a Godzilla so I can't comment.

"That's a lotta fish!"
I hate to say it took me two whole days to remember that line but it did.
rats, rats, rats, rats, grumble.
I wonder if Disney will ever make "Godzilla on Ice"?
or some Broadway Director will ever to a musical version of Godzilla for the stage?

My favorite version was the one where they dubbed Raymond Burr into it.
For those who have never seen Godzilla, MAC the Wolf is referring to the US Version -- Godzilla, King of Monsters -- that came from a completely Japanese movie -- GODZILLA -- with badly dubbed English for the Japanese dialog (the lips don't synch right) and with scenes added by Raymond Burr. It is notable that Raymond Burr was already a box office attraction with parts in REAR WINDOW by Hitchcock, A PLACE IN THE SUN, and in his career - 73 other movies.
The truth is that Burr spent no time in Japan and six days on a soundstage in California creating the American scenes for the movie.
And the original Japanese GODZILLA referenced Hiroshima and was very anti-nuclear. Much of that was removed for the American version "Godzilla, King of Monsters". That's not the only monster movie or even book to criticize science as moving too fast for ethics and bad behavior - "Frankenstein, The New Prometheus" preaches against runaway science or science gone bad. IT's a standard theme in SciFi that "mankind is not ready for . . ."
Also, Godzilla was shorter (200 feet, 60 meters) in the original conception but when moving it to the USA, he was enlarged to 400 feet tall (121 meters) because the buildings of New York City were so much taller than those in Tokyo. Tokyo has earthquakes and does not build immense NYC style skyscrapers.
Why does Godzilla resemble a man in a rubber suit?
Because Kaiju are humanoids and resemble men or mammals. All sorts of monsters in Japan are humanoid monsters in many respects. The nuclear risen lizard is a big theme - and lizards have two legs, two arms, and a head when they stand on their rear legs.
They are also mostly oceanic mutants - they rise from the sea, or live next to the sea. Again, remember the nuclear origin of Godzilla. . .
And most of all, practicality. They had to dress a man in a latex molded suit and photograph that against miniatures. Ask yourself this: how does one man move like an octopus on land? The answer is he can't so the character becomes humanoid and monster.
Kaiju literally means "Strange creature" or in other words - Monster.

For those who enjoy playing with words (as I know both Dave and Paolo do), the Japanese word "Kaijū" is written with the characters 怪獣 and does mean "monster." It is written with the characters 怪, meaning "mystery" or "apparition" and 獣, meaning "animal."
Japanese is filled with homonyms, and two commonly used words that are also pronounced Kaijū are 海獣 (marine animal)and 晦渋 (ambiguity, obscurity).
If written with either of the syllabaries as かいじゅう or カイジュ−, the meaning can be completely ambiguous, covering any or all of the homonyms.
