I'm in the midst of researching historical genital modification (piercing, tattoo, scarification, castration, penectomy, etc)...specifically in pre-17th century cultures.
I'm currently running into roadblocks trying to find solid documentation...just lots of rumors. I've found a bit on eunuchs in Persia (primarily in the harem guards) and in China (mostly the personal servants to the Emperor).
I'm looking for any solid information on philosophies behind genital modification, methodologies used, and historical accounts. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Historical Research: Resources?
Much of what has been published in English (and some of what is available in other languages) is listed in the Eunuch Archive Bibliography:

The bibliography is an on-going project and more items are being added as I have time for them. I probably have another fifty, or so, items in my office that I need to type up for insertion, but they will gradually be added. I would appreciate anyone here sending me information about anything that I've missed.

Re: Historical Research: Resources?
I would really like to look at this list of reference books but for some reason I cannot find the Bibliography on the site. I get to a page on the forum with a link to the bibliography but it appears to be dead? I od not usually have any issues finding pages on this site. I spent time in the British library looking though text some years ago. I would really like to see your listing and maybe read some of the material myself if I can find it. Sorry if I am missing some simple link to this bibliography. I think it is a great resource for the site and I didn't know it was within the forum.
