Guillermo Del Toro wrote his childhood fantasies about giant robots and Godzilla-like invaders from another dimension.
Its got kung fu, earthshaking battles, all sorts of funky sci-fi science and quite amazingly a coherent story.
Good, escapist fun. Don't take it seriously, just enjoy the mayhem.
Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, and Ron Perlman who deals in Kaiju brains. A bunch of other good actors too. . .
And did I say earthshaking battles?
And did I say they have wings?
If you accept the movies premise and just not question it then its all fun. I mean harvesting kaiju parts is yucky, yucky, yucky but the damn thing is PREGGERS. Where to they get these plot twists?
Its got a really good climax and satisfying ending.
And a tiny scene in the credits.
