Elysium

This is Neill Blomkamp's second Science Fiction movie to hit screens in the USA. The first was DISTRICT 9 and that remains a fascinating and unique look at social conditions in a refugee campy for aliens
ELYSIUM is an orbiting world of ultimate perfection. The citizens are the privileged rich. The rest of mankind lives on the surface of the earth in squalor. When a recidivist thief is radiation poisoned and has five days to live, he uses those five days to get to ELYSIUM to get into a healing machine that will save him.
That sounds simple but the plot is twisted and turned and there are many moving parts that must come together before the story is over. Some of these characters are truly, deeply disturbed and act in ways worthy of psychopaths. Even when the audience has figured it all out and settles into watching the battles chases at the end, it still twists and surprises.
Matt Damon is the hero, Jody Foster is the villain, Sharlto Copley is her even more villainous stooge, and you'll recognize the other actors.
Well worth the price of the rental
