Mob City (TNT miniseries)

It's a homage to NOIR…

That's all you need to know. If you are a fan of the genre then you will like it.

dark rainy streets with cigarettes and death on each corner. Seedy bars with gals in skimpy outfits selling cigarettes and bad advice to slow, easy jazz… always that wailing sax that calls out to the night.

Crooked cops, mobsters, gun men, booze and bullets.

Tough guys. Hard guys.

no big words

added: in the first half an hour of the second hour, there is a night club scene with a singer and a big band doing a version of "Another Night in Tunisia" that is such fine jazz it hurts for it not to be alone and on display all by itself. I love that big band sound.

🙏

I flagged it.

Sounds like the same idea and history as "Gangster Squad".

Hard to know the true truth about it but Hollywood was a part of keeping the gangsters at bay.

Although some crossed the line such as George Raft and Frank Sinatra,

the studio bosses were fighting the attempts at taking over studio's unions.

Again I only heard such things, and don't believe we will ever know the truth and whole truth and most truth about

the Mob being successfully repelled from LA & Hollywood.

It is set in Los Angeles but they do not mention movies or movie-making.

Think more along the lines of "LA Confidential." That's one of the NOIR films.

I tried to watch Mob City on two occasions.

The style is fun but, the story too slow with "mood sets".

I do not know if I will make it through this series.

I don't know

believe I would recommend this mini series except for the extreme to almost comical, noi mood.

Wet streets in Los Angeles. 😄
