A Movie I Actually Liked - The Child (2012)

Ten year old Simon is dying of a brain tumor. As a birthday gift, his guardian takes him to a past-life regression session to alleviate his fear of death.

During the session, Simon remembers committing a string of murders - 15 years ago.

One by one, Simon leads a lawyer - and the police who think the lawyer did it - to the sites where he hid the bodies.

Or, at least, where Simon believes he hid the bodies.

But when Simon confesses that he will kill again - that he has one more criminal to murder - events take a drastic turn that plunges them into the world of illegal baby adoptions, child pornography and molestation, and of course, more murder. The boy insists that he will kill this man, at a certain place and time, before he himself dies. This is what he was 'sent back' to do.

To be honest, I could have done without the subplot of the lawyer's back-story on how his baby son died at birth. I found it superfluous, and only there to lead up to a cheesy ending that was totally predictable. I think the plot was supposed to mesh with the child molestation/pornography theme, but it didn't. It was clumsy, and only served as motivation for the lawyer to double-cross the boy.

All in all, though, it was a good suspense thriller with a wonderful "throw you off the trail" set of clues. Just when you think you know whodunnit, it blows up in your face!

Honestly, the first movie I've watched in a long time that I liked.
