The Rob Ford 'Crackstarter' campaign has hit its $200,000 goal.

The campaign, started by Gawker last week, to buy a video purportedly showing Toronto Mayor Rob Ford smoking crack from a group of alleged drug dealers who shot the video. The goal was met with 11 hours to spare.

Ford, on Friday, denied that he had smoked crack cocaine. "As for a video, I cannot comment on a video that I have never seen or does not exist," he added at the press conference.

John Cook, the Gawker editor who saw the tape and created the campaign tweeted about the campaign hitting its goal.

TORONTO -- Toronto Mayor Rob Ford's press advisers are the latest to leave their jobs as questions swirl about a video that purportedly shows the mayor smoking crack cocaine.

The mayor of Canada's largest city said outside his office Monday that press secretary George Christopoulos and deputy press secretary Isaac Ransom decided to leave, but he declined to say why. Ford fired his chief of staff last week.

Ford also apologized for calling journalists "a bunch of maggots" on his weekly radio show on Sunday.

"I sincerely apologize to each and every one of you," Ford told reporters. "It has been bothering me a lot."

The smoking video has not been released publicly, and its authenticity has not been verified. Reports on gossip website Gawker and in the Toronto Star said it was taken by men who said they had sold drugs to Ford. The Associated Press hasn't seen the video.

The Star reported that two journalists had watched a video that appears to show Ford inhaling from what appears to be a glass crack pipe. The Star said it did not obtain the video or pay to watch it. Gawker and the Star said the video was shown to them by a drug dealer who had been trying to sell it for a six-figure sum.

This has been one of the bright spots of corruption ...

It's going to go into the annals of bad deeds done by officeholders ...

You know that mayor is kinda dumb, he should have gone to Hospital and got a blood test right off the top. If he is clean he then has plausible deniablilty and he can then call out anybody.

Interesting River..Perhaps he didn't do that because he isn't clean! I believe coke stays in the bloodsteam for several days...If he can't stay clean for that minimum time, then one would have to assume he has an addiction problem...I can't imagine anyone being any sort of long term coke abuser being as big as this guy..I've known a lot of cokeheads (I'm in recovery from alcoholism, for many years), and I can't recall one fat one...And there are NO recreational crack users...None! Maybe he hasn't been abusing it too long...Most often, drug abusers (alcohol included), use more than one substance...Their choice is not always available...Booze is a common backup...Interesting subject...

I was amazed that the kickstarter hit the $200,000 as fast as it did. There's obviously lots of people out there who want the truth or just enjoy a good scandal (pick one - altruism versus squalid gossip)

Personally, I think he's dumb, stupid and a crackhead. And I know how judgmental that sounds but he has the look of a crooked politician.

It's one thing to go after a politician for corruption, dereliction of duty and even moral turpitude, but it disturbs me that kickstarter is being used in this fashion to set up a sting operation. I mean really...

No, that's not true.

The bad behavior was in the past and no one forced the mayor of Toronto to smoke crack.

Whoever took it is profiteering (which is despicable) but the Kickstarter is not a "sting" ...

I've seem lots of actions against crooked, honest, and rather shady politicians and to tell the truth, asking the public to pay if they want to see how corrupt their politician is is wrong but the SPEED shows that the citizens want this mayor exposed.

Not that I want to see that fat-ass of his... I'll bet they used one of those CINERAMA cameras to get his ass in three parts (left, right and middle)

Go read the article for some of his comments. He insults bike riders, asians (every single one of them in one fell swoop, people with AIDS,people wihtout AIDS, gays, lesbians, etc..., Tourists (by asking "Do you want your little wife to go over to Iran and get raped and shot?"), Councillor Gloria Lindsay Luby, transgendered and transsexual people, the homeless, Councillor George Mammoliti and finally, the handicapped.

Possibly that wasn't all of his insults.

He sounds like a prick determined to let the air out of every balloon he can find, but kickstarter was never intended to be used in this way. Basically they hired mercenaries. Even if this results in tacking down someone who deserves it, this is a slippery slope. It may seem like a great thing now, but the ends do not justify the means.

You know if they don't like this jerk you would think after 10 years they would fire him and vote for someone else, this is not his fault but the fault of the voters for keeping him in office. You get the government you deserve.
