Jodi Arias convicted of first-degree murder

PHOENIX — Jodi Arias was convicted of first-degree murder Wednesday in the gruesome killing of her onetime boyfriend in Arizona after a four-month trial that captured headlines with lurid tales of sex, lies, religion and a salacious relationship that ended in a bloodbath.

Arias was charged with first-degree murder in the June 2008 death of Travis Alexander in his suburban Phoenix home. Authorities said she planned the attack in a jealous rage after being rejected by the victim while he pursued other women. Arias initially denied involvement then later blamed the killing on masked intruders. Two years after her arrest, she said it was self-defense.

Testimony began in early January, with Arias eventually spending 18 days on the witness stand. The trial quickly snowballed into a made-for-the-tabloids drama, garnering daily coverage from cable news networks and spawning a virtual cottage industry for talk shows, legal experts and even Arias, who used her notoriety to sell artwork she made in jail.

Jurors got the case Friday afternoon. They deliberated for two full days this week before reaching a decision late Wednesday morning. The verdict was announced at about 2 p.m. local time.

The trial will move into a phase during which prosecutors will argue the killing was committed in an especially cruel, heinous and depraved manner, called the "aggravation" phase. Both sides may call witnesses and show evidence during a mini-trial of sorts. The jurors are the same.

I was surprised at that verdict.

A beaten person can feel trapped where they only see freedom as offing the beater,

walking out the door was not an option in that frame of mind.

Moi

I must have missed something, huh ! ;)

She confessed and then withdrew the confession.

Then she confessed to it again then retracted it again.

Then she changed her story 4 times, maybe 5 times.

Then she made up some lies in between.

What possible credibility could she have left?

None.

What credibility do you expect from a beaten, frightened person ?

I'm not going to argue this because the trial went on for months and still a jury found her guilty.

Right now, she's guilty, judged by her peers and that is that.

Greta Van Susteren and HLN with that other crazy woman - Nancy Grace are saddened.

You can go have MaiTai's and pity parties with those two.

SO now please with my permission, add another post saying how write your are or casting doubt on her guilt.

2 hrs later - what the hell is that, Dave? Uh, my fat fingers? Really?

IT'S: right you are ... ... ... #@$!!#$%$%@$@$$#

....besides that, the fool broke the first cardinal rule about relationships. It is, "NEVER GO TO BED WITH SOMEBODY WHO IS CRAZIER THAN YOU ARE."

...if he had NOT broken that rule he would still be alive today...

...they should turn her loose, after all, she has performed a useful service to women everywhere...

Long term abuse can surely twist your thinking. I remember the days of being forced to perform oral sex and being beaten during the act because I was not good at it. The thoughts of shoving a blade up my abusers rectum was strongly considered. I was upset by the abuse but I was most upset by the person I was becoming because of it.

I am not sure, of course, what really happened but I can understand how memories can be affected in such a situation. I do not know if justice was served. I wonder if jurors can be empathetic to someone who had been abused?
