The world celebrates May 1.

May Day.

Another one of those holidays America ignores while the world celebrates.

To The Workers I Wish To Express,

Happy May Day.

Happy International Workers Day.

Don't let globalization apply to management alone!

We missed International Women's Day last March.

I was in former East Germany in Late April/Early May 2009 and got to see this holiday in action. I found it rather bizarre but nonetheless fascinating. I enjoy partaking in things we don't do or don't have here in the US when I have the opportunity to travel abroad.

May day is the pagan holiday celebrating Spring and fertility.

But with the Roads closed and lows in the teens, Naked dancing weaving a May pole wasn't as popular here in Laramie Wyoming this year.

I am with talula on this one. We should consider making this our centerpiece event. --FLO--

I like it Flo, I will photo shoot it and you and tal can lead the way.

I do remember as a kid that we calibrated May Day at school.

We don't celebrate Boxing Day which sounds like a great day to celebrate if you ask me.

May Day is related to the Celtic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celt) festival of Beltane (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beltane) and the Germanic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germanic_peoples) festival of Walpurgis Night (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walpurgis_Night). May Day falls half a year from November 1 – another cross-quarter day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-quarter_day) which is also associated with various northern European paganisms (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paganism) and the year in the Northern Hemisphere – and it has traditionally been an occasion for popular and often raucous celebrations. As Europe became Christianized (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christianization), the pagan holidays lost their religious character and either changed into popular secular celebrations, as with May Day, or were merged with (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syncretism ... syncretism) or replaced by new Christian holidays as with Christmas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas), Easter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter), and All Saint's Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_Saint%27s_Day). In the 20th and continuing into the 21st century, many neopagans (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neopaganism) began reconstructing the old traditions and celebrating May Day as a pagan religious festival again.

I know the reason we do not celebrate it, Spring? thats a laugh it snowed 4 inches yesterday, the ground is covered again in this white blanket of spring, BS. Bring on summer, fuck spring.

I would imagine such things could only take place in Laramie the 2 months each year it's not covered in snow and ice. During my time there I always referred to it as Hoth.

Oh come now, it would be great fun for a bunch of eunuchs to strip naked and dance around a pole celebrating our lack of fertility. ;)
