Is the Fiction Archive an archive at all ?

An archive is a PERMANENT repository for some kind of information. The so-called "Fiction Archive" is no archive. Stories which had been included in it have been deleted. This nullifies its function as an archive.

If you are going to edit it periodically and delete stories for no specified reason then STOP calling it a Fiction Archive. Call it what it, in fact, is: the Fiction Collection.

If you MUST edit the collection, why retain an author's flawed early efforts and delete some of his mature works of far greater merit ?

Okay... I'll bite.

Exactly what stories have been deleted???? We have a policy of NOT deleting stories. Even stories that would not pass the submission guidelines today (ie. SNUFF), but were published back in the free-for-all days, we still will not delete, no matter how bad they are.

So, What story has been deleted?

Or, are you referring to the backlog of stories that have not yet been restored from the old archive, and put on the new one? None of them have been deleted, they just have not been transferred yet. In fact, you can still read them on the Wayback machine if you are really missing them. So they still aren't completely inaccessible to you.

Our editing efforts are concentrated on formatting, and computer code, NOT on content. For severely disabled stories we will run the spell checker, but that is about it.

What exactly do you mean by this statement of the EA not being an archive? Please explain yourself.

The Archive is stored on a computer. It is a digital entity.

Computers and their components fail from time to time.

The Archive is not exception.

My suggestion, xsmasturbator, is that you fuck off.

DONE

I think he was commenting on not all the stories being restored yet. I know it's getting old, but another explanation of what happened a while back might be in order. The users faux-pas was not taking the time to go back and read all the threads related to the story archive issues, outage, and restoration, but I'd expect nothing less from someone calling themselves xsmasturbator.

Basically you've explained it Cainanite, but I'll do so again.

The archive computers suffered a catastrophic failure a while back. The stories were archived and backed-up, but when this failure happened a decision was made by the moderators/owners of the EA to create a new story archive architecture adding categories, and other functionality to the system (IE you just want straight stories, you can go there. Gay stories, yup you can click there too). This required new coding and programming of the system and area of the site that holds the stories.

The editors have asked that people submit requests for stories that are missing at this point. The stories are not deleted, but if you have a favorite you would like to see restored sooner rather than later, make a request to the editors (can a mod put in a link to that thread here?) and they will move it up the queue to be restored.

They are doing all this on their own time, at their own (mostly) expense, and with little help from the outside. So please be patient.
