Firefox and Adobe Flash Player

I use the Firefox browser. For several months, there's been a problem using the latest releases of Adobe Flash Player in Firefox. You'd get announcements that Flash Player had crashed and been shut, as often as several times a minute if visiting a site rich in graphics. Many people reported the same trouble. Firefox help was full of highly complex fixes, none of which seemed to work, if they could be done at all. I had to uninstall the latest release and re-install version 10.3. Firefox has since updated to release 18.0.
Has anyone here experienced anything similar? Know any workable fixes? Know if this latest Firefox release helps?

Well I answered my own question by installing the latest release of Adobe Flash Player. It seems to work well with Firefox 18.0.
Problem solved.

I think I've been on Flash 11.x for quite a while now and haven't had any issues with it or any of the browsers.

Yup. Seen that a lot, especially as the site I work for carries a lot of "rich media" Flash ads.
Just recently updated to FF 18 and latest Adobe Flash and although the frequency of crashes seems much diminished they still occur. As a result of other issues I have started using Chrome and have yet to see a similar crash (although Chrome has other down-sides).

I wrote too soon. Flash Player started crashing again today. Had to uninstall and then install version 10.3.
I've thought of other browsers, but Firefox is uniquely compatible with add-ons for SEO and internet business. This is important to me, so I won't quit Firefox over this. I do wish either Adobe or Mozilla would address the problem. They're apparently blaming each other - typical of the tech world - and nether is doing anything.

Try this:
1. Download and run Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller from Adobe:
http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/ ... ndows.html
Sometimes Flash Player will get "crashy" like this because there are still files from old versions of Flash lingering in the dark and dusty corners of your Hard Drive... Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller will remove all traces of all versions of Flash Player from your computer.
2. Back up or Export your Bookmarks in Firefox, if you want to keep them (go into "Show All Bookmarks" then click Import and Backup -- Google it if you don't know where this is).
3. Download Firefox 17 ESR:
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/or ... s/all.html
The "ESR" releases are the "corporate" or "business" versions of Firefox. They aren't updated as often as the "standard" versions, except for security fixes. I find the ESR versions to be more stable (less crashes/problems) than the normal versions. For more info on Firefox ESR releases, see this web page:
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/
4. Un-install Firefox, be sure to remove your "personal data and customizations".
This will remove both the Firefox application, and your Firefox Profile (that is, all your settings + "preferences" for plug-ins such as Flash).
5. Install Firefox 17 ESR.
6. Restore or Import your bookmarks (if you saved them in Step 2)
7. Go to
www.adobe.com and download the more recent version of FlashPlayer. Be sure to do this in both Internet Explorer and Firefox (there are two different versions of Flash, one for IE and one for everything else. You need to update both of them).
You should also un-install any versions of JAVA on your computer (Control Panel-->Add/Remove Programs, or Control Panel-->Programs), then go to
www.java.com and download the most recent version of it. There have been several fixes (both security and stability) in Java over just the past few months. I don't know for sure if an old/buggy Java would cause Flash to crash -- but I have seen websites using both Java and Flash at the same time. So I assume a Java problem could cause Flash problems and I always update both when I work on a computer.
