Hi all and happy new year to all as this is my first start post this year.

My question is simple is the a sybol or sign that means your a Eunuch if not why not we are a special group and it would be nice to know others but in secret code after all a vasectomy symbol is a small set of scisors and the gay community have the rainbow so what have we got?

On another note is there a gathering here in the UK just like in the States which I would have loved to come to and meet others but its a bit to far to travel.

Thanks in advance

We once tried to create a symbol and also discussed a pronoun. I am not sure if we ever reached a consensus. It would be fun to revisit the topic. If I was home with my computer I would do a search for some of the old threads.

宦官 - Japanese and Chinese for Eunuch. These cultures have a long history of accepting eunuchs. I am chemically castrated, and soon going to have a full orchi and scrotectomy.

I don't have a tattoo but this has been so life changing I am going to get this tattooed - my question is where on my body????

The four major cultures in East Asia have more than one word for eunuchs, although all four use Chinese characters as their basis in the same way as many languages use Greek and Latin roots with different pronunciations. Korean now mostly uses a native syllabary (Hangul) and Vietnamese uses the Roman alphabet, although with a great many diacritical marks.

All four use words based on the characters 宦官. Japan never used eunuchs and that is the only word that I have ever found in use. Both China and Vietnam used words based on the characters 太監, and it was the most common word in Qing Dynasty China. Chinese also used 閹人, and the most common word in Korean is 内侍.

In a nutshell, Greek is a very concise language. A word has one meaning, and when you see it, that is what it means. Period. Unlike English, where "cool" can mean "lacking warmth" to "trendy" to "I/we like that!", one does not have this problem with Greek. The Greek word for "cat", let's say, means a feline. A "cool cat" in Greek is not a trendy male of some decades ago. It's a feline that's not warm.

Let's assume that the book of Matthew was written by Matthew. Matthew was highly educated. He was a tax collector/auditor. He was a sharp guy. In that day, the language of commerce and education was Greek. Everyone who was anyone doing anything knew Greek. Even the Jews. They used Hebrew mainly for religious ceremonies, and/or at home. When out and about, they used Greek. So then along comes Matthew and writes his Gospel.

This means that when you see the words: Matthew 19:12, Greek: καὶ εἰσὶν εὐνοῦχοι οἵτινες εὐνουχίσθησαν, then that bold word means "eunuch." In Greek, it means a male who has no testicles. Period. End of story. The word means one thing: a castrated male. Matthew would not have chosen that word if he simply mean "chamberlain" or "official".

When it comes to picking out a tattoo design, it's always best to investigate exactly what it is you are getting.

A Texas man recently discovered that the tattoo he got on his arm in solidarity with a dog that he adopted in 2010 was, in fact, the symbol denoting that a neutering procedure had been done. Chris Mendiola, 26, of Southlake, mistakenly thought his pup had been tattooed as a form of animal abuse.

Really appreciate your help on this and tattoo misspellings are often so embarrassing!

I only used Google translate for the Chinese/Japanese spelling. Its interesting that Google uses ευνούχος as the Greek for Eunuch which is different from εὐνοῦχοι by the last letter. Google translates εὐνοῦχοι as someone in charge of the bed chamber - who was probably a eunuch.

One other consideration, having read about Byzantine ευνούχος is that it was done as a punishment and maybe has a less than savory interpretation in modern Greece.

And you are absolutely correct that Eunuchs were never present in Japan.

Perhaps also worth considering that a lot of civilisations that castrated did so as a a form of slavery and subservience. We are changing that perception, but there still seems to be a view amongst some that castrating a man must have been done so for a reason such as a sex offense, and therefore is this something you should be advertising.

Personally I feel proud and maybe should have the courage to have a prominent tattoo to confirm my belief.
