What I are feeling and getting is theses hot flashes which last for 20 to 60 second and during that time I feel very warm to hot and start to sweat, manly around my head and upper body.

These are happening any time of the day and I had only about 5 of them so far.

It is very hard to say that if my sex drive has dropped off at all.

Can anyone please explain what are hot flashes and what do they feel like and what else happens at the same time?

Thanks for your help

I think most people experience hot flashes somewhat differently. I've never heard a completely consistent version of that experience, other than a sensation of heat is involved.

For me, it felt like I was blushing, but without the emotion of embarrassment normally involved with that experience. It was accompanied by a sort of warm tingling sensation, and my whole body would become overly sensitive to touch. If I were especially unlucky, the hot flash would come with a bout of vertigo, and an overall (but brief) dulling of my thoughts.

When I was experiencing these episodes, I was still a child, and did not understand what they meant. Pictures of me from ages 12 to 15 always show me with incredibly red cheeks. At the time, the hot flashes were an almost daily occurrence. I remember sometimes the episode could last for a few minutes, or it could last for a few hours. Standing outside in the cold became a very soothing experience. As I grew up in northern Canada, this was often a source of relief for me. I remain to this day, overly sensitive to too much heat.

I have not had those episodes for a great many years. Probably not since I was 18 or 19 years old. If you are experiencing hot flashes, it will likely not last an incredibly long time. A cold shower will probably help.

From my understanding, most people get over the hot flashes in a few months, but for many it can take years. It is a real situation of "Your Mileage Will Vary". For me, it lasted a long time, because of how my testicles were damaged. They were not 100% destroyed, and still produce a small amount of testosterone. I would go through ups and downs with my testosterone levels. My emotions were also a roller-coaster.

The best thing I can tell you, is if you are experiencing episodes of heat and sweating for no real reason, then you are probably experiencing hot flashes.

I'm sure others will let you know of their experiences.

depending on how hard it hits it can be mild to the point that you wonder, 'was that a hot flash' to so intense that you break out in a sweat feel flush and feel like the room/outdoors just got 50 deg hotter. This happened to me once at the end of day at work, we were all talking about the day getting ready to walk out the door when I had one of these. Everybody knew I was having an event, quick thinking on my part I grabbed a file folder from my Project Manager and started to fan myself. Several of these people were women and then I said 'WOW I must be having a hot flash' everybody thought that was funny and nobody gave it a second thought.

Sometimes the truth is so strange and wrong you simply cant believe it.

At the risk of being flippant, you're gonna know if you're having one because you will suddenly be hit with a desire to stick your head in a freezer until it passes. At first I felt like that, and as it went on they were less severe. Of course, I started hormones 6 weeks after my testicles were removed, but I did have some experience with the flashes.

I have had several longer periods without testosterone, and hot flashes were always a present characteristic. For much of the past 12.5 years I have been using HRT. My testosterone levels are near the bottom of the normal range. I suspect, but do not know, that I once was fairly high in the range. Even while using HRT, I frequently experienced hot flashes, while my body was adjusting to an apparently lower level. These lasted about 5 years. All along and to this day, I am very sensitive to cold, unless I am prepared to go out in it. Overheating can sometimes be an issue, as well.

I had bad hot flashes for 3 years or so until I started HRT and my testosterone levels using HRT are still at the bottom of normal and I still have one every now and then, especially at night. Mine were so bad at night, I would wake up in the morning and my bed and myself would be soaking wet. I am very sensitive to the cold because I stay warm as far as body temp goes. I would have them during the day and start sweating real bad, enough my shirt would get wet and my underware would get wet, my face would get real red, my hair would get wet like I had been working out or something, I would also get dizzy along with these sometimes. These things would last from a few seconds to a hour or more during the day and I am going to assume that they lasted most of the night from the amount of wetness of my bedding in the mornings. The ones I am still having at night are pretty bad because my bedding is soaked in the mornings when I have one. Like everyone says Mileage Varies.

After my castration i had very hard hot flashes. Up to 20 times and more a day. It started suddenly about 3 to 4 weeks after the castration. It was very terrible and i had to change my shirts underwear evrey tim, because i sweated a lot every time. And my flashes took not 20 to 60 second, they took up to 20 minutes! I had the same experience like yosam7532.

A number of years ago, since I'd get a hot flash maybe about once every other year pre-orchiectomy, it was snowing heavily, and I found myself outside the library in the cold air lying down on the outdoor park bench, watching snowflakes coming down upon me while I only had a t-shirt, pants and socks on... And wishing I could take those off too without anyone noticing. Already people were giving me funny looks.
