More later on tonight but my old MAC died of overuse and old age. Keyboard and Mousepad blew out.

I'm now on a new MACBOOK PRO 13inch screen.

And I can read the damn screen -- WOW

Lost 4 hours of editing that is really a loss.

What a goofy mess.

I spent too much time downloading Microsoft WORD because I'm so used to using it. Those people are truly ignorant of how hard they make their websites and software.

I am slowly reorganizing my bookmarks. The old computer sits nearby because I can't remember all the passwords.

Tomorrow I try a zip drive to transfer my WORD files and hopefully i can do the editing I promised a friend and send out letters that I also promised.

grumble, grumble.

I have backups of everything but what I was working on at the time the mousepad and keyboard went bad.

THE GOOD STUFF, even this 13 inch display on the new Mac is a thousand times better than the 15 inch display on the old Mac.

I can read this display from a couple feet.

And I'll get used to all the new bells and whistles in a few days or so.

I think we have all experienced what your going through at least once, its not fun and a lot of work no mater the platform. Right now I am in the process of specking out a new PC for myself then use this one as a backup.

Don't get to frustrated

My most spectacular computer failure involved a flash, smoke and flames; not much to salvage from that one. At least you can recover your work. On a related subject, my son's prehistoric IBM was so outdated even I didn't want it. It went first to his grand parents and finally ended up being used by EA in some capacity . Of course it should have lasted a long time, it cost me nearly $3000 when it was new in about 1998. --FLO--

I understand, today you would get the same thing for about $350 and yes we used that for the chat room for a couple years when it finally died.

Damn, it seems computers are about as faulty as River's sex life. Yeah, yeah, my sex life too.

I love my 13-inch MacBook Air. Glad you're enjoying your new machine.

I've spent most of the day editing what is a novella for a friend. It's 30K long... I finally got a handle on that story. This morning I found the backup copies hiding in the old computer.

I copied all of my files to a zip drive and moved them to the new machine. Took about an hour to keep all that stuff in order. I have four years of stories in that archive.

The old machine kind of works with a mouse until you have to type a "p" (which doesn't work). The "t" and "u" keys are nearly shot. The arrow keys are useless. The touchpad works to scroll but the clicker button is fused or shorted. The optical drive can't read CD ROMs.

The Apple Nerd disconnected the clicker button. It will still surf the internet. It's not dead, just gasping... If I get a "vintage" keyboard and mousepad, it will rise from the semi-grave and work again. All that without HRT.

I always said that I would get a new computer when I paid off my car. I wish the damn machine had not malfunctioned the day I wrote the check.

Question Dave, I don't have an apple, but I need a new key board so this next week I will go get one off the shelf and plug it in. Are you saying that you need to find an exact match to the keyboard that took a dump? you can't just go get a key board or and Apple keyboard? it has to be exact?

Honestly, I don't know.

The Apple Nerd said that APPLE does not stock that replacement anymore because the computer is too old.

However, "vintage" replacements are available.

I'll have to look into a USB or maybe wireless keyboard.
