Internet Explorer vs. Mozilla

So last week I tried to log onto the college website where I am taking classes. I could not. Finally, one of their TAs in the computer lab installed Mozilla and now I can. I was using Internet Explorer.

Yesterday I got the quarterly email from the credit monitoring service I use. I could not access the report. That ended up with the usual long call getting bounced from one place to another. Finally one of the techs asked what I was using. I said Explorer but that I could also try Mozilla Firefox. She said to try that. I did and went right in slick as a whistle.

I have no idea why it has become an issue, but I thought I might pass it on.

Firefox ain't what it use to be. It went from a small to an incredibly bloated app. I suppose it has to do with too many addons but even then it's memory footprint is much much larger than it was in the early version 1.0 days.

I suppose if you want a good browser you can stick with Chrome or SW IRon. but I really don't know any windows browsers that are feature pack and minimalistic.

I recall K-Meleon and amazing, simply amazing little browser with the lowest memory footprint that you could open multiple tabs yet not crash. However the developer stopped updating it yrs ago.

Try qtweb though. really small browser but its been a yr since ive used it. It might crash n you , it might not. Its a worthy contender. Certainly better than firefox.

If you are NOT using Explorer 8 ( I believe) therein probably lies your problem.

I have saved important files and DUMPED my old Windows XP in a RESTORE and loaded it on again from a partition in my hard drive on my HP that I have had for about 12 years now.

Trouble is, when you do this you end up adding Service pack 2 manually before you are able to turn automatic updates.

My HP runs backweb originally so that HP could update the thing but nowit serves little purpose except to conceal malware. So I will eventually remove backweb from my computer.

I just loaded Service Pack 3 and I am getting the environmnet back to normal...whatever that is...

that's another thing. What windows OS you using Arab nights?

I don't mind windows 7 but believe it or not my fav is still a slipstreamed hacked windows xp.

you can find a pretty good hacked 2012 edition on the interwebs. just torrent that sucker.

Some XP versions have the full works. Direct X 11 and support for 64bit achitecture. Again this is a very patched up OS.

Ever wonder why it's been so hard for Microsoft to fully get rid of XP?

it's just too popular and people keep adding shit to it to prevent it from dying out.😄

Never mind my bad.

Slipstreamed sp3 on 32bit XP OS only, but with sata, raid and multiple driver functions. Some have built in dedicated ati andnvidia drivers.

Kinda a shame they don't have 64 bit sp3 for XP.

Therein lies your problem. A great many sites I have encountered are telling me on the work PC that they will no longer support IE7.

Years ago, I watched coworkers cling to their old version of Windows and the programs that ran there.

One college professor clung to the student version of Wordperfect until the computer center cut off his access and when he called them to come and help, they deleted Wordperfect from his computer.

Windows XP might be a "nice" operating system but it's hacked to death and nearly unsupported.

When my business merged with the other laboratory and we became a national lab... The computer people loaded everything required to do your job on the computer whether you liked it or not and then if you screwed with it, they took the computer away and you lost access to the network and all computing. Why? Because every day, day after day, hackers were assaulting our firewalls and machines. I saw the logs of what was incoming and where they were coming from. IT's not only a jungle but a jungle filled up to the ass with ravenous crocodiles snapping at any computer.

And from the websites I see people post here, I can't imagine that any anti-virus or firewall protects the computers.

Explorer 7 Home Premium.

I am confused. There is:

Windows 7 Home Premium (which comes with Internet Explorer 8 or 9) and which is on operating system.

Internet Explorer 7 (which is obsolete for many web sites.) which is a browser, (and which if I remember came with Windows XP)

In either case try updating to IE 9 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/inte ... -languages (though personally I prefer Opera http://www.opera.com/download/)
