I read the following on fetlife site and wondered about the cancer issue. I already have an opinion on the validity of ths suicide quote. I was unaware of the link between HRT and cancer. Is there any basis for this in reaserch?
Sole reliance on synthetic HRT would eventually end with cancer though, at my stage in life being 50 and 25 years HIV it is not really a fear.
Also in Gender reassignment there is a high suicide rate post procedures.

It is well known that female HRT will increase the probability of breast (and a few other to a lesser degree) cancers. Likewise male HRT increases the probability of prostate cancers. Certain cancers are considered hormone dependent and any increase in those hormones will increase the probability of developing those cancers. But in no case is the probability high enough to say that you would certainly get the cancer. It's just a higher risk.
And on suicide. Trans people in general have vastly higher rates of depression and suicide than the general population. We often have poor social skills of the gender we were born, and have never had a chance to build the social skills of the gender we transition into. Many of us are rejected by our families and abused by society. We often have difficulty getting hired and keeping a job. And SRS can be an even greater stress. Too often we consider SRS a magic bullet that is going to change everything. Then we have SRS, and are still depressed, the family still rejects us, and we still can't get a job. This on top of the fact that any major operation with general anesthesia can cause a serious depression. Yes we kill ourselves far too often.
