Low WBC's and low platelets

I saw my doctor today and was surprised to find that my white blood count is low as is my platelets. He gave me a referral and said I would need a bone marrow test. Does not sound fun nor cheap since I am self pay. I was curious if my almost 15 years without T might be part of the problem? I also want to check and find if any diet changes might help. I do not have HIV so I am not concerned about that being the source of the problems. I am aware of other diseases that cause the reduction in WBCs and platelets. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Tomorrow at 11:00 AM I have my first appointment with the Oncologist. I have known her for years and she is very good. I of course never wanted to be a patient. I am sure I will be fine and may just have to adjust my diet. If I am not I better start writing my book. LOL

Tugon,
I know that the higher the androgel dose I use the higher my red blood count is.

Eddie I appreciate learning of your experiences. My fear after almost 15 years without T is that I may have to use it. I like who I am but I also like my life. My other fear is that I may have to cut out the wine I enjoy. Of course there may not be anything wrong other than an error in my lab work.

When I had knee surgery my WBC and platelet counts were so high I had to wait six months without HRT before it went low enough so I could have surgery. The surgeon and a specialist both said that the blood cell count is directly affected by Testosterone levels. I have gone back to not taking HRT except at very rare times. --FLO--

Good luck!
There are four treatments for low red counts.
1) Take more iron. If your problem is low iron.
2) Blood transfusion. Only lasts about 2 months.
3) Procrit or other drugs which encourage your bones to make more (but see #1)
4) Steroids. Either testosterone or any of several others (prednisone, medrol, etc).

Tugon wrote that he has a low White Blood Count and low platelets. If it is not a fluke or a lab error then it might be a type of leukemia (blood cancer).

Oh you said the L word and the C word. Even though I knew this was a possibility I still had my fingers in my ears and singing La, la, la, la
