A Peruvian woman allegedly cut off her sleeping boyfriend's penis, then tossed it into the toilet.

Julia Muñoz Huaman, 41, reportedly used a kitchen knife to cut off the penis of 46-year-old Ramon Arias Apaico before flushing the severed appendage, according to the Digital Journal. The two were staying at a hostel in Brena, Peru at the time.

Huaman attempted to leave the hostel, but was stopped by staff members, who contacted authorities after allegedly hearing Apaico's cries of pain, La FM reports.

Police claim Muñoz (pictured at right) confessed to the crime, saying she made the slice after learning Apaico had cheated on her, according to MSN.

Apaico was transported to a hospital in Lima, according to Peru 21. Arias remains partially intact, urologist Zarela Solis told the station, and is expected to remain in the hospital 10 days.

He will likely need psychological treatment for several months.

Check my math, but if only 1/4 remains, and it's 3 inches long, his penis was originally 12 inches long. I'd have liked to meet this fellow before he got shortened!

Actually, the english translation is bad -- in spanish it says it left 3 centimeters.

I don't know whether the number of women severing their husbands' and boyfriends' penises is increasing or if we're just seeing more thorough reporting of it.

For style, though, Catherine Kieu Becker gets my vote. If the news accounts are accurate, she drugged her hubby, tied him to the bed, then waited for him to wake up before unzipping his pants and cutting his penis off while he watched helplessly. Then, to be sure it couldn't be reattached, she put it into the garbage disposal and turned it on. My hubby would give her more style points if she got him just short of an orgasm before cutting, and then teased him with the severed member afterward. But she gets my vote even without the enhancements.

Does anyone know what happened to her? (Or to him, for that matter?) The news accounts seem to have ended abruptly with the arraignment. Has she been tried yet? If so, what was the verdict?

We're just seeing more of it due to ability to see worldwide news. There is a PDF that slammer has posted somewhere that is a medical text related to anatomy of the penis, and the cover picture is a severed penis (well the glans anyway) with the note saying it was severed by a jealous woman. And the text is from the early 1900s if I recall correctly.

It is a pretty obvious way to wound a guy in a vengeful way, especially where sex, jealousy or infidelity are concerned. Pretty sure it happened through history at a pretty steady rate.

Even with modern reporting, we probably don't see the full extent of it. I expect most urologists working in cities see a few cases of vengeful penectomies in their career, in addition to self-inflicted ones.

An emergency room chief physician I once met said that she saw several castrations a year and a penectomy once in a while. --FLO--
