Last night, as I was getting ready to to retire, I noticed there was a link on my desktop than I had already seen. I pulled it to the trash and proceeded to dump the trash. It took two or three clicks to dump this file because my computer kept telling me that the file couldn't be dumped because it was still in use. When it worked, I noticed something weird on my desktop. All my icons, at least all the ones I had put on my desktop, were missing. By icons I mean EA Boards, Google, Pogo Games and even my hard drive, everything was missing.

I looked frantically as I didn't want to call EunuKen and say, "I screwed up."

Finally, in desperation I went to the dock of items just above my desktop, to one called "Go". In it were several items like Applications, Network, and Desktop. Every missing item from my desktop was there which assured me it was a copy of my desktop.

It assured me also that 'maybe' my desktop items were just invisible for some odd reason. I went to each blank spot on the desktop with my cursor and clicked. As if by magic, each icon reappeared.

I'm happy again now

Moi, Mac OS X is a *nix system, so it contains daemons, and sometimes even zombies .

PS. When I worked as a sysadmin, I usually answered about my occupation: "I tame penguins and conjure daemons".

Why not something more Russian? Maybe something from Gogol.
