American Tragedy
American Tragedy
This time in Colorado. And of course the face of Gifford's shooter comes to mind.
They look like cousins with the same inside joke in mind.
Even the current shooters other photos from high school and college have a similar smile.
My complaint, the continued 27/7 Tabloid coverage is wrong on so many levels.
Especially its' function in creating a "fame" for the wrong doer.
Gun control on assault weapons is one level of prevention. Further gun control is unlikely.
What do you propose? What programs might be instituted to prevent these occurrences.
What is your psychoanalysis of the Giffords and Colorado perps.
Their names intentionally not used.
Moi
I bet neither smoked
or found it dysphoric.
Common with mental illness.

Re: American Tragedy
I have debated on if I should post this, its been sitting on my screen for about an hour, I keep coming back to it. But here it is for good or ill.
I have only five words for you,
'From my cold dead hands' Charlton Heston
Guns are a part of our way of life, millions of people have guns, some have more then they can hold, load or shoot but it is a way of our life. Nobody wants to give that up, (its for the coming revolution dontchuknow).
On the good side of that, the millions of Americans who have guns will never shoot them at a person, at least not intentionally, (Dick Chaney).
They are here to stay, get use to that idea, there will be no changes in the law.
As for the victims and their families, my heart goes out to them, as for the shooter, give him a quick speedy trial then take the SOB out and SHOOT HIM with his own guns.

This is so obviously a false flag or a psy-OP that it's not funny. If you don't know these terms, please Google them. Conspiracy theory, Maybe?
With the whole UN arms control thing that our government seems to want to bow down to, this is the perfect setup with a Patsy to take a fall, so that they can push the arms control act. The whole aim is to disarm the public, leaving this country ripe for an invasion.
I have news for the retards in charge of our country - the old (mythical) saying wrongly attributed to Hirohito in WWII about "a sniper behind every blade of grass" is TRUE, though. Anyone who tries to invade is going to have a hard time with it, especially here.
I have a friend who could probably hold off Russia single-handedly for a week or more. At last count, he had over 500 guns, and was pissed because the county won't let him build mortar launchers or restore an old broken down antique Howitzer he cobbled together. We just did a photo shoot for another guy with well over 1,000 guns, all of them working.
Of course, my fantasy is rigging the house to explode on command.

Re: American Tragedy
I don't understand the American resistance to gun control. I really don't.
Yes, I know I'm Canadian, and I live in a 'Nanny State'.
The odd thing is, even with gun control, we Canucks still have guns. Lots of them. We are a gun toting bunch of folks. I dated a girl who's father has a bunker full of guns, sniper rifles, what looked to me to be a rocket launcher. Think that scene in Terminator 2 where they uncover the weapon stockpile in the desert. Same thing, only in Saskatchewan.
The guy was very proud of his collection. Not only was every piece registered, and tracked, but he was certified and licensed to use and fire every gun he owned.
That is what gun control looks like to me. If you want a gun, you have to be licensed to use it, just like you get a licence to drive a car. And the gun has to be registered, just like you register a car.
Criminals, and people with a history of mental problems are restricted from owning such weapons or getting a gun licence. You simply cannot buy a gun without a proper licence.
It makes sense to me. It also seems to be working here.
Not 100% perfect. We have gun violence too. Just not on the level we see happening in the USA.
Criminals will still get guns. People with mental problems will still get guns. The difference is, it is a lot harder, more expensive, and risky to get a gun without a licence or registration. It is a safeguard against some mental case, being armed to the teeth, and walking into a crowded place to open fire. He might get one gun, but not twenty guns, and unlimited ammo.
Gun control isn't a bad thing if you are a responsible gun owner. You can still have your arsenal to protect yourself from an invading country. It is a bad thing if you are a criminal though. If I were a crook, I'd be against it.

Re: American Tragedy
Cainite, your system is good except for the fact that the bad guy
need only come south or the 49th to the nearest Gun Show. Yup!
Do the kids need any ammunition today?
How about the little lady, are her magazines full.
And the Mexicans don't need Obama's gifts ala Fast and Furious,
they can come north to the same Gun Show closer to them.
Of course, without the War on Drugs, how many Mexican would want a gun.
BTW I have pondered a little 38 lots of times.
Concluded I am too emotional and my tremor makes it a no go.
But, I would favor a revolver over an automatic if it was to be, one gun.
I like the simplicity.

Re: American Tragedy
Yes, Moi. A criminal could do that. And I am no doubt sure that is where our supply of illegal guns comes from. However, average criminals seldom plan that far ahead. Most certainly, someone who is mentally disturbed will seldom have that level of planning, or investment in time before they go off the deep end.
Smuggling things across the border adds another chance that we will catch the crooks, before they do something drastic with the guns. That level of risk also makes it likely that someone who does, is going to sell the guns, not use them. Gotta recoup those expenses.
Therefor is very likely that a common crook will end up with one gun. A crazy person might end up with one gun. But neither will have an arsenal.

Re: American Tragedy
About gun control... It only will prevent accidental and not so intentional deaths.
Look, in Norway tight weapon control did not prevent anything. It is all up to motivation.
So, why this man was so motivated to kill? I am sure that Batman movie is connected to massmurder. Such people do choose their targets, time and location very well. What ever is their reason.

Re: American Tragedy
If i understand what I saw on tv this morning ....the supreme court ruled on this issue a few years ago....gun control laws are now a dead issue...it can no longer be legislatively dealt with and nobody in congress will ever touch it ever again. The biggest problem we have is very smart people with .... PHD degrees ... building a bombs with the most common bomb ingredient which is ....................granulated sugar.....can we ban granulated sugar...i dont think so
Lonely ..unhappy nerds have become very dangerous ...people need to concentrate on the unhappy person that lives next door to you...they are more dangerous than any gun.

Re: American Tragedy
frankly, there is no sane reason for guns with large magazines & high rate of fire to be in civvy hands. for whatever legitimate use a civilian could say they have for an assault rifle, smg or machine pistol, there's gonna be a hunting rifle, shotgun or revolver that can do the job better by any & all criteria u could mention. accuracy. hvy calibre. reliability. conservation of ammo. safety!
going deer hunting with an M16(what an asshat.)? the guy with the .30-06 will bag his limit llooonng b4 u do. oh my, a burgler has just broken in! quick, grab ur machine pistol! time to pray & spray. btw, did u just shoot any of ur own kids?
full auto has only one REAL purpose; fire suppression. keeps the enemy from shooting back at u long enuf for one of the other guys ON YOUR FIRETEAM to move to a good firing position & line-up an aimed shot. if u aren't a soldier(or S.W.A.T.) an assault rifle is worse than useless to u.
