Gender bending

Greetings! I'm a straight male, with fairly specific fantasies. I have often copied stories off of the site, gone through and replaced names and other gender identifying words for my own purposes.

I would of course, never submit something like that to the archive - not without direct permission from the author/credit to them at least.

I kind of just wanted to throw the idea out there, and see what authors/people think about gender bending some of the stories. I'm sure I can't be the only one, and I'm sure that the sentiment works both ways. I know, as with anyone's personal creative works, that this could be a rather insulting proposition, but please understand that it is because I like your writing style, scenario, characters, that I wish for some of them to be a different gender.:p

That is fine to "gender bend" all you want. Just keep it to yourself. No reposting. If it is found here, it will be deleted.

Honestly, when I read stories, most of the character's genders are already interchangeable to me. Doesn't much matter.

In my own novel, the main love interest is a little blonde girl named Hanna. It could very well have been a little blonde boy named Harry. The story wouldn't have to change that much.

Hanna even wonders at one point if my main character even sees her as a girl. The real answer is it wouldn't make a difference. He doesn't love her because she has a hoo-haw. He loves her because she is important to him, and accepts him no matter what.

If your story is significantly different from the original that altering the gender really makes that big of a difference to the way the story unfolds, then I might be interested in reading it. But no, I wouldn't publish it to the archive. Though, if the original author was okay with it, and the story was different enough to constitute a new narrative, I would be open to considering the idea.

What stories have you done this for?

@Kristoff and Cainanite - first off, I want to thank you guys for all you do around here! It's truly incredible

@Kristoff - As I said, I wouldn't think of doing it without express permission from the author themselves, as well as credit to them. I would never want to disrespect the people who are nice enough to share their work!

@Cainanite -

I can definitely agree with that. Well, when there aren't many details about the other person, the only thing that can really "take me out" is a name of someone I know (because, of course, I instantly picture them 😄). Really, the only places where it makes a difference are when the story describes someone in detail, or does specifically involve their genitals. However, most of the time, as you said, it is fairly minor changes that wouldn't necessarily be worth putting up, and ultimately do little to the story, but there have been times that I changed a significant bit.

I don't keep them around usually - but I know in the past I did it with one called "job lure," making the assailant female. In that case, I altered certain details about the person (some "tenting" that occurred to be specific) and instead replaced it with certain feminine qualities.

There was one, I believe it was called, "stoner dude gets the munchies," in which the driving force behind the story is that the main character wants to see this young man naked, and is bargaining with him about it. In that case, I replaced details about what the person wanted to see, why he wanted to see them, etc.

And again, as you said, the genders in the stories are usually fairly inconsequential, however, there are certain things that take me out of them because it can make it a bit more difficult for me to relate to some of the characters.

And I would be flattered if a someone liked one of my stories enough to change them to match their orientation
