What was that blur?

We argue too much on these boards. So I think we should take a time out and talk about something people can make a simple statement about. I would ask everyone to refrain from blurting out "That's dangerous!" or other similar things. This is a thread to show everyone just how big our balls are (or were).

Blur? That's a reference to speed.

What is the fastest speed you have personally driven any vehicle?

Ditto in a '57 Buick Roadmaster. Young and dumb and full of cum. Thank God for Nevada back then when you could floorboard it with an open drink in your vehicle on the way to the whore house.

Back in the late 70's I had a 1962 olds Starfire, not the little car of later years, but a flashy and fast version of the 98. It was the Indy pace car that year , and there was a special model with triple carbs. That was what I had. 5 MPG on a good day LOL. Was on my way down to the Marina for a cruise , and had my Mother in the car. We hit 122 MPH and the "boss lady" simply reached over and switched off the ignition. She was NOT pleased about going that fast. Needless to say even though it was my car, she drove when we went home.

110 MPH in a 1969 AMX. The AMX was a two seater with an 8 cylinder engine and 4 speed standard transmission. They made about 6,000 a year for 3 years and if I still had mine it would be worth a fair amount.

1972 Ford Grand Torino Super Sport, Going back home from my dads place in Thousand Palms on Hwy 10 heading to LA. it was about 10 in the morning, the A/C blasting along with the radio. Now Hwy 10 in that stretch of road is going up hill, about a 8 to 10% grade, 4 lanes each way, 100 ft between them and all open desert. There is this 18 wheeler ahead in the slow lane nobody else on the road. Often those trucks would be doing 35 or 40 mph going up the hill and when I went by him he was standing still. After about a mile I decided sense I was not in any hurry I would slow down and pace him, I looked at the speedometer and it was pegged. I took my foot off the gas and started to slow, I had slowed some when the speedometer started coming down, when I got to 70 mph I noticed that truck what going about the same speed. I have no idea how fast I was going above 120, I do know my normal 2 hour drive home took 1 1/2.

1989, 135 MPH in a Pontiac Firebird Formula 400, on a long flat straightaway in Arizona.

At those speeds, the back end gets light and squirrelly, so the spoiler helped a bit.

The super-stiff suspension also helped a lot.

115 mph in a rotary engined Mazda RX2 back in the mid 1970's.

I was on a new stretch of highway about 15 miles long with absolutely no other traffic. The wheel balance was not good enough and the mechanics told me that they had to specially balance the tires for speeds over 110 mph. They would have done that because several RX2's had broke their speedometers at 135mph. The curves on the highway took both lanes and the car felt like it could not hold the road. That crazy rotary engine was powerful beyond common sense. I wasn't near the red-line of the engine or transmission. The body of the car wasn't aerodynamic enough to handle those speeds.

I won't ever do that again.

I wanted to let others chime in before I responded, but my personal "best" was 133 (digital readout), and it was on 2 wheels borrowed from a family member. Needless to say at that speed on a motorcycle if anything happens you become a less amusing version of Superman for a few seconds then you become a stain on the road. This particular Bike was not even close to its top speed at that point, and I believe it might have been the fastest street legal land vehicle for sale in the US the year it was produced.

I took the bike home immediately after and have not been back on it since.
