I had a bilateral Orchiectomy in a hospital by a Urologist.
After the surgery both sides were swollen very large. The two together were as large as a regulation softball and the skin stretched very tight.
At two weeks the right side went down, but it is now 3 weeks and left side is still enormous.
The Doctor said it is not a problem, it is just blood from vessels he had to cut and it should go down eventually. I know I should just be patient, and I am trying to do so.
Does anyone have any idea how long it can last? Obviously it is different for each person, but I was just wanting some thoughts on what to expect.
How long can swelling last??????

Re: How long can swelling last??????
It takes a while,
I replied to this on the yahoo group as well. In my case the scrotum was reopened to drain the clots, it has been open since the day after surgery. Since mine last survey was the scrotal reduction it is a little different but the result is the same. The clots get absorbed. I was told up to 3 months and that seems to fit my experience

Yep, takes longer for some than others, but give it another three or four weeks. It'll be a slow process.

My doc left drains in for the first 2 days. A lot came out during that time. My swelling was gone in about a week. But the cords themself are still swollen and I am told will be for a while.

I guess I was fortunate. Mine was done in a surgery clinic by my urologist. He removed them through the inguinal canal. I had very little swelling. Nothing like you all experienced.

Ok Last night I go to be thinking that my cords are going to be a while to atrophy and reduce. Wake up today and they have reduced by half overnight. Still there but wow. Maybe posting on the boards works as magic.

Re: How long can swelling last??????
Mine stayed swollen for about 3 weeks.
Actually my balls were the largest they have EVER been after they were removed. My scrotum was swollen with blood and VERY tender.
I was getting worried and even went back to surgeon. He said they were swollen larger than normla, but they looked OK and to just wait.
Therre weeks later I woke up one morning and tehy were 1/2 as small as teh bday before. Over the next couple of days teh scrotum went flat and I have had NO trouble since and that was 18 months ago.

Re: How long can swelling last??????
My testicles were removed thru incisions made very high in the scrotum so the maximum amount of the cords and attaching structures could be pulled out and cut as short as possible. Also my urologist made a hole in the bottom of my scrotum and put a surgical drain in place for 3 days. It was like a little tail from my scrotum but the procedure was excellent and left me with essentially no swelling or bruising. I had an earlier biopsy which left both swelling and bruising so my castration was much easier to endure. I even went in to work the next morning.
